  3. Thanks very much @Mkbw50 for the daily threads and the QOTD - and congrats on your victory! I thought it was on the whole a really successful games for Team GB, even in spite of the many almosts and 4th finishes. That just goes to show the strength and depth of the Team and the fine margins of Winter sport. Particularly impressed by the cross country skiing results and think Joe Davies could be one to watch in the future. Gutted for the Curlers - the Mixed Doubles was disappointing to walk away without a medal after such a strong showing. The Women performed about as well as you could have hoped, just a shame that it didn’t go their way and they couldn’t make it into the semi finals and who knows what could’ve happened. Really feel for Bruce and the boys, hope they can find a way forward whatever that may be - I’d love to cheer them on in 2030 but who knows. I have said before but I do feel like our Winter Sport ambition is misplaced when we totally overlook speed skating. With investment, that could be a far more accessible winter sport than some of the others we currently fund. And look at where the Netherlands finished in the medal table - every medal from speed skating. I’m not saying we could ever achieve those heights but I think as a non-alpine nation we miss a trick. Sad the Games are over but looking forward to the Paralympics.

  5. So in control up to the last couple of ends. Came out firing on all cylinders and then just trailed off. A good campaign nevertheless, but obviously not what they were aiming for and not sure they’ll be back for another crack in 2030.
  6. Women’s Halfpipe postponed until tomorrow apparently.

  9. So bloody close, what a shame for the ladies but also a good result for the young team.
  10. Canada seem to be throwing the game away to get a favourable draw

  14. I agree any decisions should be taken in the round and the context that this is our most successful ever Winter Olympics, irrespective of what happens after this point. I don’t understand the mentality of giving the big funding to snow sports when we are not an alpine nation, never will be an alpine nation and cannot ever compete on a level playing field with them due to our geography. The aim of being a top 5 snow sports nation is cool, but we can’t change the environment. Why not focus on speed skating which you actually can 100% control because it’s indoors, and run a programme like we did with cycling and pump the money into that. There are also upwards of 20 medal events in short and long track speed skating - the Netherlands is 4th in the medal table with 12 medals, all from speed skating. Alas discussions for another day - we still have the Games to enjoy!
  15. Judging by what the commentators said, she was going to try and clean up her higher scored run? But that could’ve only squeezed another 3-4 points out of it which would’ve put her into bronze? I don’t understand why she didn’t go for a bigger jump on her lower scoring run. At least then you go out going for gold.
  16. Mouat has been dreadful today.

  19. Disappointing that Canada’s cheating now results in additional umpiring of what prides itself on being a game of good and proper sportsmanship. But if there are cheats about then it’s only right and fair. I also note that Canada has received a warning for their language and behaviour with additional sanctions threatened. But realistically how does that help Sweden? Canada’s stone, by World Curling’s own judgement, should have been removed from play - yet the result stands.

  21. Fantastic and with what style, a class above. So pleased we are on the board
  22. As a fellow Brit I sympathise with your frustration, but you don’t need to mention funding every time someone doesn’t match expectations (which I appreciate has been more frequent than we’d like of late!) Surely if they’re not performing they need more funding not less? Let’s do the postmortem after the Games and enjoy watching while we have them. And I’m not sure Team GB’s performance/funding is of interest to everyone else following the sport.
