  1. A very rare South American clash at the sharp end of a WTA tournament - in Bogota SF no less. Pigossi takes first set vs defending champion Osorio Serrano which is a mild upset.
  2. Dwayne Haskins - backup QB for Pittsburgh Steelers and former starter for Washington Redskins/Football Team was hit by a car.
  3. Transgender women will no longer compete under British Cycling competition. I guess the fear of that transgender woman beating Laura Kenny at the national champs the other day proved too big to reveal there is a competitve advantage after all. Boris Johnson also spoke out against it and it's over for now. https://www.bbc.com/sport/cycling/61036110
  4. Opening Day today! Due to weather forecast the Yankees vs Red Sox opener was postponed to Friday so the season will open with Cubs vs Brewers in ca. 3,5 hrs time.
  5. Cuba has allowed the return of official professional boxing following a 60 year ban https://www.dazn.com/en-GB/news/boxing/professional-boxing-approved-in-cuba-for-first-time-since-1962/2qwqlzd42th11uelkcfeg0d1n
  6. It's a placings system? Like anyone needs that back after the figure skating nonsense?
  7. The same happened in Poland in the 1993 elections when the communists re-branded as "Democratic Left Alliance" regained power in a major after-shock of the first 4-year democratic spell that resulted in many jobs being lost as the country didn't bankroll majority of the companies anymore. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Polish_parliamentary_election Two years later Kwasniewski became President but he was actually one of the better former communists who didn't hang on to the past - unlike subsequent SLD leader Leszek Miller who was an old communist war eagle so to speak. Miller finally got bounced from politics and expelled from SLD in March of last year many years after he actually lost leadership of the party. Then again, last time the left-wingers won an election in Poland was 2001 when they could still play the sentimental card after a tumultous period of the 90s. Since 2005 it's all about the neo-liberals from Civic Platform or conservatives from Law & Justice here. And yeah, the neo-liberal shit doesn't work in Poland either. CP was doing the "vote for us because we are not Law & Justice" crap and lost in all the electons since 2015. It doesn't frickin' work at all and they remain clueless. The fact they also raised the retirement age and said there is no welfare money for the children killed them in 2015 as well.
  8. Hah! Imagine the scoring for that one. Nobody except insiders would have a clue what's going on?
  9. There will be fewer events in shooting? I see IOC is moving to blast the old school events for those kids urban events that are supposed to atract the mythical new fans? Fewer weight categories in boxing & weightlifting, some sailing events "merged" for less quotas overall and now shooting also affected?
  10. At the end of the day Orban placed himself as the lesser evil to Jobbik and won long-term big time. I'm shocked Jobbik has been dissolved yet since I don't believe anyone would buy into their re-branding. It never works in politics. Left-wing parties are hard to win out in former communist states. The Polish left-wing side is more or less dead since 2005, they tried to re-brand some old communists since then and the current "social democratic" left-wing party is led by a former head of the Communist student organization The old commrades are unwilling to let go. No wonder nobody votes for left-wing in Poland since basically 17 years.
  11. Well, I still remember the days when Jobbik was called neo-Nazi & anti-semitic party. And now they are supposed to be the lesser evil to Fidesz? No wonder the opposition failed, this was just a power-grab coalition. Those kind of deals hardly work out.
  12. Magdalena Frech scored her first WTA Top 50 win ever - via Petra Kvitova's retirement in Charleston R1. It's not like Czech tennis has to rely on Kvitova anymore. (WC) Linda Fruhvirtova beat Ana Konjuh earlier today and has moved ahead of Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in the rankings so she has nobody younger than her ranked higher.
  13. More retirements from women's ski jumping: Kaori Iwabuchi, Misaki Shigeno, Nina Lussi
  14. For matches left in the regular season and LA Lakers aka the oldest team in the league is four games behind SA Spurs for the last play-in spot I wonder if Jennie Buss has the audacity to blow this pensioners house up after the season? Anthony Davis is injured for like the 12th time this season and Russell Westbrook has been terrible. The fomer triple double king is nothing more than a bench player this season. We could see a Bucks vs Suns finals repeat this season again IMO.
  15. Carlos Alcaraz wins the Miami Open. Well, everyone knows he's the next Nadal so buckle up for the next 15 years
  16. Somkiat Chantra won the Moto2 race in Indonesia two weeks ago so the Asian Talent Cup has something to be proud of. He finished 2nd in Rio Hondo today. Aleix Espargaro won the MotoGP race - his first win in all of Grand Prix racing in 284th race! Also first premier class win for Aprilia ever.
  17. Only for the third time ever World Cup opening match will not feature either the host nation or the defending champion. The only two other WC where that happened was 1930 ( vs ) and 1938 ( vs ). Even when multiple opening games started at the same time (last time in 1962) either the host or defending champion was playing. In 1934 all eight R16 matches started on the same day at the same time. vs will be the 2022 WC opening match. Start times for matches: November 22nd (Tuesday) 17:00 CET vs November 26th (Saturday) 14:00 CET vs November 30th (Wednesday) 20:00 CET vs The Latin American teams, that would be 11am local in Mexico and 2pm local in Argentina (DST included)?
  18. Iga Swiatek blasted Naomi Osaka 6-4 6-0 in the Miami final. Your WTA #1 slaying!
  19. It's snowing for two days in Poland This global warming thing isn't quite working this year
  20. Yeah, Croatia has aged since 2018. It's a perfect script for a send-off flop to the Modric-Mandzukic generation (the latter of whom has retired already). I'd say Canada has a reasonable chance to pull off the upset.
  21. Yes, I know. Argentina has nothing to be worried about Mexico vs Poland opening match looms like a battle for 2nd place already.
  22. and in Group G. This means: and in Group F and in Group H.
