Serbia women's volleyball team ahead of Brazil and Russia in world ranking :hyper: only China and USA are better than Serbia.

Men;s team only 9. But expected, they were very bad last year.

groups are disaster. From group B, four team can win a medal. Maybe only Belarus and Hungary are not that good.

Well, its FIVB/CEV. They always do stuff like that, even in World Championship/ Olympic Games .  Instead of standard group draw, they prefer the stupid and outdated serpentine system, which is elementaly flawed - most of the time we have one good group and one weaker group, like in RIO, and then when it comes to decisive matches like quarterfinala the teams from the weaker group are doomed . In this years' olympic games in men's volley we had 4 teams from each group in QF, but only 1 team (Russia) from the weak group A and 3 from the better group B in semifinal. Also the World Rankings are so badly maintained I can't even say... After Euro Championships 2015 Slovenia advanced to 25th place in the WR. then the next edition comes out after this years edition of World League, and Slovenia suddenly drops to 29th place. The strange thing was that according to the official rankings they did not drop, they advanced a few places. So it seems like the ranking is either fundamentally flawed too, or the person respinsible for it can't count :d

Poor :SVK:( They had a huge chance to advance to the semifinal here at the Junior Euro, but lost after tie-break 2:3 against :BEL Still it is possible, but Belgium is now ranked 2nd in the group and has to win against 5th France which only defeated Croatia while Slovakia has to win against much better Bulgaria.

Meanwhile the third ( :SVK and :ITA )and fourth (:BULand :GER )placed teams will play in 5th to 8th semifinal.

The 5th to 8th semifinals are :SVK vs :GER and :ITA  vs :BUL
Meanwhile The Medal semifinals are :TUR vs :SRB and :RUS vs :BEL .

New world rankings are out after Rio. So they are now not counting the continental championships, but continue that idiotic World Cup?! FIVBs rankings are going the way as FIFAs rankings, as being completely pointless. But the worse part is that FIVB uses them for many draws, tournaments, shenanigans..

World Cup is arguably the strongest volleyball competition. 90% of the world's best teams are always there and everyone plays against each other... :dunno:

It's not arguable, it's a fact ;)  you can just look at the rules to see that it is much more important than World Championships, because

1. Unlike the World championships it offers an olympic place

2. There is a smaller group of better nations, so the level of competition is higher

3. To qualify to world cup, you have to either win World championship ( so the championships are basically a qualification event to the world cup :d ) or be in the top 2 teams in continental championship.

4. To win it or just qualify to Olympics, you have to be in good shape for the whole tournament and possibly win all the matches ( polish men's team learned it the hard way last year)

What irritates me the most is that it always gets hosted by Japan, so it kind of  makes their way to the OG much easier then the other teams. Not to mention that this year Japan also hosted the World Qualification Tournaments, which meant they only had to win like 4 matches in the WQT to go to Rio, while the Polish team for example has had to play more then 20 games. Talk about fair rules...
