Amit wins and goes into quarters but very unimpressive..... Seemed slow and not in the best physical form

To be frank, I think Gaurav was better today. Amit was extremely lucky to win while Gaurav was unlucky to lose. Being seeded helps whether it is AIBA or not.

Also in close bouts, boxers get nod from judges on reputation too. That is how Amit got it today it seems. He meets a Philipino next who is no pushover. Amit will have to be much better than today to prevail.

Gaurav Solanki was unlucky in that respect to draw the top seed and loses to him in close bout. Hope he will qualify in the world qualifying tournament.

Boxing is very competitive in asia. There are so many contenders,no bout is going to be esy in Olympics.Being seeded helps in two ways first u get a bye and second reputation always helps in getting judgement in your favour especially in tight bouts,so if any boxer has a chance to be seeded federation should prefer him/her.

Have to disagree … Always the best must be sent …. Because they finally will medal if they are the best …………...

For example Kavinder Vs Gaurav ….. I think Gaurav is the better boxer …… great flow and clean lines ……. kavinder is over defensive , over uses the shell guard , will never get past a good boxer

Gaurav may not have got thru Mirazez but he was close and I am sure will get thru at the world qualifier …….. at the Olympics he is a medal prospect but kavinder even if he got thru here will not be a medal prospect

So, these are QF line ups-

Men's Flyweight - Amit Panghal vs. Carlo Palam (PHI) - Amit had won against Palam at last year's world championships 4-1, it can be a close one though with Amit slight favorite

Men's Lightweight- Manish Kaushik vs. Chinzorig Baatrasukh (MGL) - Not much know of Mongolian, Manish should be favorite

Men's Welterweight- Vikash Krishan Yadav vs. Quicy Okazwa (JPN)- Japanese is 2019 Asian championships silver medalist, so it will be a close one.

Men's Middleweight - Ashish Kumar vs. Mikhel Robero Muskita (INA) - Ashish would be favorite

Men's Light Heavyweight- Sachin Kumar vs. Chen Daixing (CHN) - Again not much achievement from Chinese but Sachin is also a newbi, so a close one

Men's Super Heavyweight - Satish Kumar vs. Daivii Otgonbayar (MGL) - Satish would be favoured here

Women's Flyweight - Marykom vs. Magno Irish (PHI)- Mary would be clear favorite here

Women's Featherweight- Sakshi vs. Im Aeji (KOR) - both are new boxers. So, a close one

Women's Lightweight - Simranjeet Kaur vs. Monkhor Namuun (MGL)- Namuun was a QF at WC and bronze medalist at Asian championships while Simran was a silver medalist in higher weight class, so this will be an even bout

Women's Welterweight - Borgohain Lovlina vs. Melieva Maftunakhon (UZB) - Lovlina was WC bronze medalist , so would be favourite here

Women's Middleweight- Pooja Rani vs. Chutee Pornnipa (THA) - Pooja was AC 2019 gold medalist, so favourite here.

So, at least 6 out of 11 bouts we would be favoured, other 5 will be close and few will get a second chance even if they lose in QF. So, expecting about 8 quotas from her for Tokyo olympics. Anything more will be a bonus.

Pooja, Lovlina on womens side and Vikas,Sachin, Ashish and Satish will have their QF today.

Great feet by our Fed Cup team to qualify for the first time to the World Group play-offs. Young guns Rutuja, Ankita together with Old horse n legend Sania combined eally well to achieve the feet.

    • Well now's time for a little summary of my experience attending Stop 1.   Overall it was a nice experience, my first time visiting that venue in particular. It brought me some memories from my time at 2011 PanAm Games, seeing athletes from many countries. Now the venue is kind of dated, and it really needs some serious maintenance. For me it was unacceptable that the restrooms for the general public were in poor conditions, and also some sections need a fresh layer of paint, not to mention the heavy layer of dust in the ceiling. Thank God no debris fall in to the pool or on the spectators, but you may see a couple of pigeons continually flying around the swimming complex, even disrupting Mark Hrytsenko's last dive in 10m platform, before being sent away by Ruslan Ternovoi.   there was a pretty large number of Chinese fans on Saturday that came to support their team with flags & banners; however, their overall conduct was very poor, most of them crossing into the "top section" denying people who paid those tickets their rightful seats, ignoring and even shoving the few security elements at the venue and disrupting the general silence by replaying videos with loud sound or standing to take pictures while the divers were competing. Not that the Mexican fans were better; at times they were very disrespectful, particularly with divers preceding local competitors, since the cheered very loudly, ignoring the results (whether bad or good) of the former.   Among my personal highlights was the fact I had the opportunity to meet the Cuevas twins, who won a silver in 3m synchro and with only 14 are considered our next big stars in this sport, and also two time Olympic medalist in 10m synchro Alejandra Orozco, who was very active during the event, often oversawing and helping in any way needed, not to mention very kind and attentive to anyone asking for a photo. Also in attendance was Olympic figure skater Donovan Carrillo, whom I also asked for a photo.   I had an opportunity to see Maddison Keeney at the small cafeteria after winning a bronze in 3m synchro; she was very polite and gracious, accepting to take photos even when she needed to take a break and finish her sandwich; that same day I ran into Moritz Wesemann on my way back to my seat after getting a beer, and on the last day I almost bumped into Jack Laugher (he was going "incognito" mode while trying to decide what to grab from the food carts outside the main building).   So in general, I had a pleasant experience and would love to attend another event in the future. To top it off, there was a brief take of me during Sunday's men's 3m finals on WA stories, which of course I've already downloaded for keeps. I hope to find some time to upload some of the pictures I took; not the ones with me & above mentioned athletes since I'm not to photogenic, but of the few photos of the competition and the practice time that I find are worthy.
