Sports fans don't get the luxury of getting all their news and info in one platform..

Some app develops could take up the idea and make 1.....tie up the app with a sports development organization to make it financially sustainable

Regarding Swimming Qualification, below is the summary of the qualification procedure, as understood by me.

All swimmers with OQT are eligible to compete in Olympics as long as NOC limit per event is followed. After this FINA adds relay only swimmers (swimmers who are part of relay team as declared by NOCs and not part of any individual event). Next FINA keeps aside quotas for Universality places. Then FINA would start inviting swimmers from OST pool. This will be done based on rankings in individual events and not overall rankings, meaning that all first ranked eligible OST swimmers in each event would be selected first, then second and so on till total quota of 900 is reached. After this, FINA gives Universality quotas to nations with no qualified swimmer (max 1 swimmer per gender). FINA only guarantees that all nations with a swimmer at Kazan Championships will be represented at Rio. It does not guarantee that such nations will have swimmers of both genders at Olympics. Any swimmer who participated at World Championships is eligible for Universality quota. S/he does not need to reach OST to be selected.

No Indian has reached OQT. I don't think any Indian is high enough in ranking to get invited on basis of OST timing. So, only chance of qualification is Universality quotas. Now, as stated above, we are guaranteed to have one swimmer. Most likely it would be male swimmer (higher ranking). Whether we have a female swimmer or not will be known only when FINA declares the universality quota. Regarding the male swimmer, there is some confusion over how male swimmer would be chosen. For London Olympics, Gagan Ullalmath was chosen in 1500m Freestyle, without him having achieved OST, ahead of couple of swimmers who had achieved OST. I am not sure whether FINA made that decision or Swimming Federation of India bungled up. So, we can't be sure about who will represent India till 5th July.

thanks dolby ................ very clear as usual :yes....................

did we have any women swimmers at the world championships at kazan ?

last time I remember the issue was this

Viradhwal, Sandeep, Aaron and Sangvekar were ineligible to be considered for 'Universality' quota even though they had crossed the Olympic Selection Timing (OST). Their OST qualification rather made them ineligible for being considered under 'Universality' quota. hence Gagan who had competed in the World championships in the 800m but did not reach the OST was considered ................. Is this going to be the case this time ?

The other point is there is a limit of 2 per event for countries in each event so I am not sure how many such swimmers  are eligible under OST ( after removing the swimmers whose countries  have already reached the limit ) is there any such list ?

Yes. Shivani Kataria participated at Kazan in 50m and 100m Freestyle and hence is eligible for Universality place.

There is nothing in the Qualification document stating that swimmers with OST ranking are ineligible for Universality quota. Also, the more I think about it the more I think FINA just accepts/rejects the application from NSF. It is NSF, who has to decide which swimmer to chose for Universality quota. But, I am not sure.

Thanks for the information about shivani ....I am still hopeful that we may have 2 swimmers then ................

Actually in 2012 this what was reported in the papers ...... based on why gagan was selected and not virdhawal ....... maybe it was the FINA rule that time ( and it has changed this time ) , or the newspaper is just blowing smoke or swimming federation sent out this press release as they had by mistake not sent the correct names ......everything is possible as far as goof ups go ..............

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
    • c'mon, guys! relax! sciallatevi un po'!    you're making me sick...it's just the season start and this is a sport where only the world championship (and Olympic, in the specific years) medals count   don't get mad for a couple of races held thousend miles away from home after the team had already passed their first climax (the internal selection)...there are still 2 full seasons before the Olympics
    • Super Round Results   21/11    b.   2-0  b.   9-1   22/11    b.   8-2  b.   9-6   nothing is decided yet, all teams still have a thoretical chance to make the Gold Medal match   Tomorrow, the last day of the Super Round sees  facing the  at Noon local time (4 a.m. CET) and  facing  at 7 p.m. local time (11 a.m. CET)   the medal games are scheduled for Sunday, BMM at Noon local, GMM at 7 p.m. local
    • very poor performance by the US bullpen both Yesterday and Today    not very impressed by this US team for the entire tournament, also in the Mexican first group (Panama deserved to qualify more than them, but they were lucky with the draw and won the decisive direct matchup)   Venezuela confirmed themselves as a very strong team at bat, but with too many troubles on the mound   Today against Japan they had to make a pitching change already in the 1st inning and basically they had to go for a bullpen game, but it didn't come out like the Dodgers'   Japan always on top of their game, even when the pitching staff doesn't perform at best...frankly, they look more and more unbeatable when no MLB superstar is involved (like in this case), but also when it comes down to the top of the pops it's not that they look worse (see 2023 WBC)  there's a serious risk that their domination becomes even too easy, the gap between them and the rest of the world is widening year after year   Taiwan might look like a surprise, but after the 2023 fail, I was sure they were going to rebound and establish themselves among the top teams in the WBSC tournaments, as they are very good in each and every aspect of the game (batting, pitching...maybe a bit less on defense, but you can't have it all)
