Excellent performance from her. She had a horrible draw and defeated a number of good wrestlers for her Bronze

In fact very happy with the womens wrestling team ...... for the olympics we should be having a good squad

48 Kg - Vinesh

53 - Possibly Ritu Phogat if she can transition

58 - Pooja dhanda

63 - Sakshi who seems to be coming back or Ritu Malik who finished 5th here

69 - Divya Kakran

so that seems a really good squad for 5 of the 6 events

unfortunately our mens freestyle does not seem to have a good squad other than Punia ( and to some extant Sumit ) ...... I do not think sushil may be back , amit is injured for the last 3 years , pancham is banned ..........

One of the phogat sisters would be in 53 either Ritu or Babita. Cant see Geeta fit in the squad.

IIRC Ritu was supposed to take part in 53kg only but shifted to 48kg after Vinesh's withdrawal. So, transitioning to 53kg should not be a big trouble. Regarding men's freestyle, we should give chance to youngsters. They can't perform worse than the present squad. Bajrang has matured a lot in recent past. He is a definite medal hope for Tokyo. Sumit has improved but qualifying for the games is still an uphill task for him. Sushil would try and come back but he should learn graceful retirement from Yogeshwar Dutt. In Greco-Roman as well, we should look at youngsters. With good exposure, some of them might be world class in 4-5 years time.

Excellent performance by both MD pairs to defeat higher ranked Chinese pairs. Also, Saina continues her golden form and defeated Nozomi Okuhara :hyper:

Now both MD pairs will play each other in QF. So, we are guaranteed one team in SF (Also, only 1 team can qualify for SF)

Lets get the categories right guys - its 50 kg, 53 kg, 57 kg, 63 kg, 68 kg and 76 kg at Tokyo.

The team does look pretty good....

So womens squad

50 Kgs - Vinesh - definate medal hope

53 Kgs - Ritu or Babita phogat - definitely should qualify- both are high quality wrestlers

57 - Pooja Dhandha - should qualify she has improved a lot

63 - sakshi or ritu malik - sakshi showed a return to form and ritu placed 5th

68 - Divya Kakran - should also qualify ( navjot has also done well but has been there for ages without great success and divya is just 18 so should improve a lot )

76 - is weak probably Kiran is the best bet still

hopefully we can have 5 qualifiers

Mens FS squad

57 kilograms/125.4 pounds - Sandeep tomar ( if amit kumar comes back from injury , I still feel he has a chance )

65 kilograms/143 pounds; - Bajrang

74 kilograms/163 pounds; Sushil can still qualify if he comes to some form and  there seems no one in that weight category

86 kilograms/183 pounds; deepak punia from the juniors ( silver at the junior worlds ) should be given a chance i feel

97 kilograms/213 pounds; satyawrat ????- he had class but again seems to have faded a bit ( but I think is much younger that khatri )

125 kilograms/275 pounds. Sumit

greco roman

60 - Vijay silver from the juniors I think is still the best bet

77 - junior wolrd silver medallist - Sajan

87- harpreet - needs to move up from 82 which is not that easy

97 - hardeep

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
    • The next chapter in the Krasnobaeva saga is upon us.   Looks like  Armenia have cut ties with her after only a few weeks. A person from their Federation has said, that they won't continue the relationship, because of her unprofessional and rude attitude towards the coaches and other officials. That includes: - having no respect to the coaches and their advise; - training without any motivation; - stops doing the routine and throws objects without any reason; - just lays on the floor and ignores the music.   When this was escalated with her mother, she mentioned that "Elvira has a strong temper and she was the same in Bulgaria and they tolerated her". Which of course is complete BS. If anyone attempted this shit here, they would be thrown out immediately.   And now  are wanting from her mother to return all finances they gave them, which she is refusing, so they will probably sue them. They will also inform other RG Federations about this situation, so they don't hire them.   My 2 cents on this is most likely Krasnobaeva was happy in BG and was forced out by her mother, so now she is sabotaging the move and be done with it.
    • Honestly Ruka is my favourite World Cup event of the whole season. Everybody is there. Later on there is always someone who skips one weekend or another . Not everybody takes part in Tour de ski. But here everyone shows up.
