Actually medals have increased in shooting ( last time we had team events - this time we did not have )

1. shooting -  if you consider individual medals ( which is what the olympics is about ) - last time we won just 4 medals last time in olympic events at the asian games -  1 gold ( jitu ) , 3 bronzes -  abhinav , chain and shweta ....... This time we have won 8 in olympics ( leave out the double trap medal ) ....... so we have doubled the medal prospects........... and also we have many 4 and 5s compared to last time and in most shooting events  we had 2 finalists which is a good sign  ......

2. Wrestling though we have reduced the medals we have won two really high quality golds ....... at low weights these are truly world class because asian standards are high  - so I would say our chances are same

3. Rowing - How are you saying we got less medals in rowing ? - last time we had just 3 bronzes , this time 1 gold and 2 bronzes it is a better performance , but this is not a sport where we have a hope in hell of an olympic medal

4. Atheletics -   also the atheletics performances have been world class in this asian games - Hima 50.x would have been a 6th position in the last olympics  and so would tejinders  20.7 ...both these are world class ......hoping for more in atheletics ....this time I am expecting not less than 6-7 golds in atheletics ...last time we jsut had 2 ...also it is not just the medla but it at what level the medla is ... this time many of our performances are of world standard in atheltics ...I feel we may have 5-6 world class atheletic perfomances especially in the 4*400 relays and hopefully neeraj

5. Badminton - Last time only one bronze - This time already both women  in semis ...keeping my fingers crossed ...but both are world class and we never know when kidambis form would awaken

6. weightlifiting - mirakhom was injured but she is the reigning world champion so would be an olympic prospect

7. Hockey - both men and women are playing the best I have ever seen them play till now - so with improvement they can also do something

8. Boxing - This has been extremely saddening till now especially shiva and gauravs loss - I am still hoping that this is an aberration - so fingers crossed - maybe we can look at this towards the end of the games

9. archery - yes very poor , at this rate no realistic olympic chances

10. tennis doubles - mens - we did well here and this is the only event we have had an olympic chance - In mixed -  Sania has been injured and not playing here otherwise a mixed doubles gold could have been on the cards , in the olympics though that is very dicey

so 10 sports is not bad were we have some medals hopes

Actually I have been thrilled with the performance of the olympic sports teams here - we will end up at closs to 75 medals overall and 15 golds I hope which would our best ever asian games performance

Let's hope for the best. But Manu Bhaker losing focus in the finals is a worry. The World Championships are upcoming and the squad needs to regroup asap.

We are only at 36 medals, how will go upto 75 ? Do you have sport wise break-up ?

Today we are at 41 medals

next few days

Badminton - 1 more is assured

Atheletics as per my numbers we should get around 12 -13 more ( out of these 16 )

  the three 4*400 relays , heptathalon ( 1 or 2 ) , Jinson both 800 and 1500, hima, duttee  and anas in the 200s , chitra and sanjivini ( at least one in 1500 women ) , arpinder - triple , seema in the discus , kushbir - 20km walk , lakshmanan 5000

Boxing though I was hoping for 7 we may end up with 3-4   around ( this where we have dropped a few likely medals for me ) ....we have only 6 out of 10 left

Squash - 2 more for both team medals

Bridge we have the pairs - Not an event I know well but based on the teams performance there are three events more - maybe 1-2

Hockey - surely 2 medals

sailing - 2 more we have 2 teams at medal position in 49ers

archery compound - 2 more assured specifically

possibly 1 expected medal from these sports put together -  (   cycling keiran , mens tt,  canoeing and kayaking, kurash and Judo )

75 is max I feel we may end up around 70-71 .............. The slight drop for me is the boxers losing quickly -     specifically shiva , solanki and mohd , also injuries to dipa , mirakhom , sania - with them there we could have got at least 4 more almost sure medals ..........

if we do the above numbers -  this would be the very best we have ever done in Asian games ( 65 is the highest )  still ....besides this is without the heavier weights in boxing where we would have definitely got at least 4 more medals , compound individual at least 2 more ,  team shooting at least 5 more I feel ....these are events dropped here but were there in previous editions and will be there in future asian games

Wikipedia is showing Bronze medal match but 2 bronze medals were awarded in last Asian Games and all the journalists and ex-players who are there in Jakarta are also confirming historic medal for the team.

Regarding Anas, he was withdrawn keeping the 4x400 mixed relay in mind.

while I do believe a deliberate program to get the best youngsters from various  countries and then make them run for your country makes a mockery of the "asian" games .......but I must say this makes atheletics at the asian games at a world class level which it was not before .............

was so very proud of Indians who in this world class field are doing well

Dharun -> 48.96  in 400mh ( would have got him possibly a final place in Rio )  ,

Hima - > 50.79 in womens 400 ( would have got her 6th place in Rio )

 tejinder 20.75 in shot - a possible 6th place in rio ,

neerajs -88.06 in javelin would have been a bronze at the Rio olympics

Neena -6.51 - just about the qualifying mark for the final 12 at rio

and I am sure our relays would also benefit from this especially the 4*400 - 3 relays ....... would love to see the time

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
    • The next chapter in the Krasnobaeva saga is upon us.   Looks like  Armenia have cut ties with her after only a few weeks. A person from their Federation has said, that they won't continue the relationship, because of her unprofessional and rude attitude towards the coaches and other officials. That includes: - having no respect to the coaches and their advise; - training without any motivation; - stops doing the routine and throws objects without any reason; - just lays on the floor and ignores the music.   When this was escalated with her mother, she mentioned that "Elvira has a strong temper and she was the same in Bulgaria and they tolerated her". Which of course is complete BS. If anyone attempted this shit here, they would be thrown out immediately.   And now  are wanting from her mother to return all finances they gave them, which she is refusing, so they will probably sue them. They will also inform other RG Federations about this situation, so they don't hire them.   My 2 cents on this is most likely Krasnobaeva was happy in BG and was forced out by her mother, so now she is sabotaging the move and be done with it.
    • Honestly Ruka is my favourite World Cup event of the whole season. Everybody is there. Later on there is always someone who skips one weekend or another . Not everybody takes part in Tour de ski. But here everyone shows up.
