Afternoon at the earliest

Oh, too late then, he was mostly the favourite going in (and then Clinton became favourite during the results and later it turned back to Trump). I very much remember when there was no Republican candidate yet, the first rumours started about that weirdo business dude running for president and I took a look at the odds...the odds of Trump becoming the Republican candidate (not president, but candidate) were at 200 at that moment! If I had placed ten euro on it, I'd have a €1990 profit :d

Obviously I didn't.

IFist fights are continually breaking out in the Nigerian Parliament.

That sounds like something that's sadly pretty common in countries like Nigeria though? And definitely not just of the past few years.

It's not like the Netherlands didn't have anyone like Wilders before Wilders. He was just a tiny bit more moderate though and, one of the worst bits of political stuff in modern Dutch history, got killed by some ultraleft dude: he left a radio interview and at the parking lot someone walked up to him and shot him dead. Not that long before the elections in which he was projected to have a major win.

Tomorrow, or actually today now (as it is 00:12), we will have the third democratic debate. There will only be one night of ten candidates. Each candidate will have 1 minute and 15 seconds to respond to a question, and 45 seconds to rebuttal another candidates answer.

Currently Biden is still polling highest. Sanders is close behind. Warren is sitting comfortably in third, with Harris and Buttigieg coming in 4 and 5 respectively. Yang and Booker are the best of the rest.

Also, polling (though we’ll never fully trust it again) has shown that Biden, Sanders, and Yang beat Trump head to head. Warren goes 50/50 with him. Harris currently loses 46/49.

I’m not expecting much from the debate, but I’m hoping to be surprised. I just really want anyone but Biden.

Fully trusting polling isn't smart after 2016 and wasn't smart before 2016, literally nothing changed about that :p

Also: who on earth is this Yang? Time for google I guess.

An economist who’s main campaign promise is universal income (every citizen gets $1000 month). He’s also become the youthful trendy candidate, and some what of a weird pop culture icon.

I believe that Conservatives are trying to get him elected to make it easier for Trump. The Russians could be doing stuff behind the scenes too.

Cool, another one with unrealistic promises that sound great but are pretty unlikely to actually happen if he wins.

I told you, the 2016 election polarized the country. The GOP turned into a super nationalist and ultra conservative organization. The DNC turned towards the radical left (socialism, democratic socialism, green, labor). Those left in the middle are in limbo, and mostly prepared to let the country tear itself a part while doing absolutely nothing.

The last time the US was this polarized was the Vietnam/Civil Rights Era. We saw radical changes then, so 2020 could be the start of some insane changes, or cooler heads prevail and we become more unified again.

I had class during the first hour of the debate :(. I guess I’ll just have to read the transcripts and summaries, or hope ABC puts it on YouTube.

Yang is giving a way money to families. He just promised to randomly select American families in need and send them his campaign money. Every other candidate laughed, but Yang got just 3 million googles, and more than a million people to visit his website.

    • It's an interesting question, Norway is certainly expanding their efforts into a number of new sports. So, that cannot help but to peal off a few more natural athletes. I know their training methods are kinda rocking the world in a number of summer endurance sports.  I can't really speak to they dynamics of their development program. Their men's nordic programs largely always seem to be ridiculously deep, overwhelmingly so the last decade or so.

    • But it seems to us that Norway wasn't as strong in Lillehammer 1994 as it was later? And not just in women's events. Generally, until 2000, Norway was much weaker in women's biathlon and women`s cross-country skiing. I remember in the 1990s, Italy's biggest rivals, Belmondo and di Centa, were Russia, when Norway somewhere further back and only in the classic style. Bente Martinsen- Skari, this is their first really strong girl in cross country, just about 2000, just like Liv Grete Skielbreid- Pioree in women`s biathlon at similar times.   Do you think, that is there any hope that thanks to the popularity of Haaland and football in general in Norway in recent years, winter sports such as biathlon or cross-country skiing will lose a little bit, becouse that?

    • This suggestion  @Dnl  made some months ago has also been implemented.   In each club, I have added a "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" record which takes the content from the Qualification by Nation tracker of that NOC.   People who see it can not edit the content, but it will be automatically updated once @Matej will update the record, and if you notice any mistake feel free to report it to Matej or in the record itself.   Club's admins can now edit the name of the section into their own language or change the spelling, I have used "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" for all the clubs. To do so, go inside the section, then click on "Manage Club"-"Edit this database Record" and change the name of the section:     By the way, if you are not a club's admin but you would like to edit things inside the club just let me know and I will give you the rights to do so. There can be more "admins" inside the club with the rights to edit and organize the sections, and that's not a role that require time or commitment.   Let's try to make all the clubs active during MiCo and when the LA28 qualifications will start!
