:SVK Michael Bugan & For President scored 70% at WC qualifier in Hungary. :yikes: What a shocker, his previous PB was 65% from last year. And a couple of months ago he was scoring in low 60s...

@hckosice Maybe there is a chance after all that between Bugan and Chudyba there could be an Olympic equestrian quota for Slovakia. We'll see. :d

This weekend Barcelona will host (again) the Nations Cup final of jumping. 15 teams are entered: :AUT:BEL:BRA:CAN:FRA:GER:GBR:IRL:ITA:NED:ESP:SWE:SUI:UAE:USA

Field is somewhat weaker since the WEG has just ended (lots of withdrawals from non-European teams). This event will be much more serious next year with an Olympic quota on the line.

Start list for the first round.

:AUT:ITA:SWE:BEL:NED:IRL:SUI:FRA qualify for the Grand Final on Sunday. Great day for Austria and Italy, especially Austria who won the first round and they didn't even have a team in Tryon! I hope their federation finally starts to give them some credit.

:GER:USA:CAN:GBR:BRA:UAE:ESP will compete in tomorrow's consolation round.

Spain, as the hosts, managed to be behind UAE.:lol:

What a frustrating day for Deslauries family.

Father Mario and daughter Lucy remained the only ones with a possibility of jumping a double clear, and thus sharing 50,000 euro reward. However both failed because both collected a time penalty! Mario 0.37 and Lucy 0.22 outside the optimum time. Unbelieveable.

:GER Germany is the winner of today's consolation round.

OMG, unbelieveable! :ITA Lorenzo de Luca was jumping for the Itailan victory, but ended up having 2 last fences down!! That dropped Italy from potential gold to 4th!

Nations Cup Final podium

:BEL Belgium

:FRA France

:IRL Ireland

Grass is green, water is wet, Belgium won the Nations cup... Incredible how they are seemingly incapable of getting any championship medal...

So this monstrosity of a dressage test will be used at London World Cup later this year. Apparently you can just remove 2 extended trots and a whole line of piaffe-passage, and still call it a dressage test, even if the whole canter remained untouched.

Hopefully it's just one time fling from super urban organizers and nothing more than that...

:NED Boekelo Horse Trials are in progress, with the cross-country day coming up tomorrow. Over 50,000 spectators (mixed with rowdy bars and giant inflatable objects) are expected in this apparently one of the biggest annual sports events in the Netherlands.

@heywoodu Were you ever in Boekelo? Or maybe I should rather ask, have you ever heard of this event? :p

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
