Is teh Race Walking team closed or they're going to add more athletes?

Anyway, I'm happy por Derek but sad for Charlotte. I think she's the future of british marathon running, cause she's so young; not being part of the olympic team is a mistake by BA....

Expand

Well, Charlotte did not achieve the British qualification standard so her chances of going to Rio were very very small. The selectors have made it clear that any 3rd athlete must have achieved the GB selection standard, so athletes need to work towards tha.

the 20km race walking teams still have to be selected, their trials are in Leeds at the start of June.

Do you know how and when will Great Britain select the sailing crews in men's 470 and 49er? I just noticed that Luke Patience and Elliot Willis had been deselected to the team few months ago because of the Willis' ongoing battle with bowel cancer. He was replaced by Chris Grube.

I thought John Pink and Stuart Bithell for 49er. How did it happen?

Apparently not, according to the official Team GB site: https://www.teamgb.com/news/final-four-sailors-selected-to-team-gb-for-rio-2016

Yes. It's already been published on Team GB site. I just want to find out how did the British sailors select Fletcher and Sign over Pink and Bithell, who earned the quota place for Team GB at the Worlds two years ago.

Day 1 Finals

Archery - Men's Team

no British participation

Cycling - Men's Road Race

:GBR Steve Cummings

:GBR Chris Froome

:GBR Ian Stannard

:GBR Geraint Thomas

:GBR Adam Yates

The course is made for climbers apparently so Froome could have a chance if he does something. I wouldn't make predictions for this race though as anything can happen.

Fencing - Women's Individual Épée

no British participation

Judo - Women's -48kg

no British participation

Judo - Men's -60kg

:GBR Ashley McKenzie

Should beat Özlü :TUR in R32 but will then face the current world champion Smetov :KAZ in R16. Repechage is possible if Smetov makes it far.

Shooting - Women's 10m Air Rifle

:GBR Jennifer McIntosh

I don't know, a better finish than in London (36th) would be nice. No chance for a medal.

Shooting - Men's 10m Air Pistol

no British participation

Swimming - Women's 400m Individual Medley

:GBR Hannah Miley

:GBR Aimee Willmott

Both should make the final and Miley could go for silver if things to well. Husszu :HUN will be too strong.

Swimming - Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay

no British participation

Swimming - Men's 400m Freestyle

:GBR James Guy

:GBR Stephen Milne

Milne should aim for a new PB and Guy is a medal contender if things go well. However, he will face strong competition such as Park :KOR, Sun :CHN, Horton :AUS, Detti :ITA, Cochrane :CAN and the Americans :USA. Just hope his swimming trunks sit tight.

Swimming - Men's 400m Individual Medley

:GBR Max Litchfield

Should qualify for the final.

Weightlifting - Women's -48kg

no British participation

optimistic shot on medals 3
reasonable shot on medals 1

Team GB medals after Day 1

Rank Gold Silver Bronze Total
--- 0 0 0 0

After a disappointing start no medals for GB on Day 1. The only highlight was Peaty's WR and McIntosh finished 15th which is very good. 21 places better than 4 years ago.

    • Boston Marathon today!  There's some international coverage.  Now, if we get a race like the epic greatest-ever 2018 edition we will be lucky......     TV Coverage | Boston Athletic Association
    • Would rather best ball be on day 1 and alternate shots be on day 2, but overall I think this is a good format.
    • 1980. Allan Wells. It wasn’t on television because of the Olympic boycott so I found out about it from the newspapers.
    • Also GB didn’t reach its target in the 4x100 women relay or the medley so those places might be rejected.
    • It was the last event of the meet anyway, so they were never likely to do a swim off. If they wanted to decide in advance based on a race, more likely on a meet like Mare Nostrum.   Both are pre-selected anyway because of the relay, so they both will be there anyway. Whichever gets the nod, we probably won't know until the week of.   With GB's history of messing about, especially in the first year of a new Olympic cycle, who knows what we'll do. Knowing us, stick Tom Dean in there, make Duncan do the 200 fly and Jimmy the 400 free.
    • Will they do a swim-off?   The other option is they select both of them and then the head coach decides who swims at the meet.
    • Very glad they went with foursome/four-ball rather than just adding up individual scores.
    • I'll give it a shot.   On the mens side the freestyle results were pretty standard with the usual suspects of Ben Proud, Matt Richards and Duncan Scott swimming well. I don't think any of these guys were fully tapered and Proud didn't even shave for his 50m free win (21.67). 17 year old Jacob Mills came second in both the 50 and 100m free, so is on the team for Singapore. Tom Dean has only just got back into training but qualified in the 4x100 after being preselected in the 4x200 free.  James Guy looked impressive with a PB in the 200m free at 1:45.08. He also won the 400m free in a race where he went out way too fast and died at the end (3:46.64). The longer distances weren't notable.   Ollie Morgan was certainly stand out swimmer on the mens side sweeping the backstrokes for a 3rd straight year. He broke the national record in the 100m with a 52.12 with a pretty poor finish. He also impressed in the 200m with a 1:55.55   Without Peaty, the mens breaststroke was pretty poor, with Greg Butler only qualifying for the relay. 17 year olds Max Morgan and Filip Nowacki took home a few medals between them.   The Men's fly was also pretty pedestrian by international standards. Proud won the 50m in 23.21 with a long glide, whilst Ed Mildred took the relay spot in 51.80. 17 y.o Jack Brown was only 0.07 back Duncan Scott won the 200m (1:54.89) but he wont swim it in Singapore.   Scott took the mens 200m IM in 1:56.44, whilst, Max Litchfield won the 400m in 4:11.59     On the women's side the quality wasn't as good but there were a few standout performances.   Freya Colbert got close to the British record in the 200m free in 1:55.76, and Eva Okaro impressed with a 24.48 50m free.    The backstrokes were disappointing with nobody breaking a minute in the 100 (1:00.03), but Katie Shanahan looked good in the 200 at (2:07.91)   Angharad Evans was rapid in the breaststrokes breaking the national record in the 100 (1:05.37), and a huge PB in the 200 (2:21.86)   Fly was poor with nobody breaking 58 in the 100 (58.03), but Macinnes broke the Scottish record in the 200 (2:07.14)   Abbie Wood swept the Medleys with a 2:08.85 200 and a 4:36.66 400     Overall the results were alright with a few strong standout performances. As is the case in a post olympic year, the big guns took it fairly easy whilst some juniors looked really promising.    More results here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_Aquatics_GB_Swimming_Championships
