It is BS penalty. It was a 50/50 racing incident IMO. However Sochi is one track where this penalty isn't that severe due to the extremely long run down to Turn 2 braking zone (T1 is a kink).

Will be interesting to see if they will decide to do a bottas style engine change

I don't think so. Too much to lose in the title race. Bottas was a non-factor for months so it didn't mean much.

You don't think they will before the end of the season?

Sky made it seem like it's coming

They probably will but ahead of a track that actually enables overtaking a little more than others. Mexico is usually a strong track for Red Bull so they wouldn't risk losing a victory but maybe they do it ahead of Interlagos (or Austin if the mileage is bigger than we think).

Every driver has three engines per season. Using four or more engines equals a penalty (you can go back to engine previously used as long as it's max. three).

Here's the full chart at the Italian GP. Everyone is on their 3rd engine except for Bottas & Perez who are on #4 (they incurred penalties already). Bottas lost one in the Imola collision with Russell and Perez lost one in the Hungary Turn 1 pile-up. Verstappen lost one in the British GP shunt and is on his third since Hungary. Mind you, Monza is usually the target for an engine change since it's a power circuit. Most drivers made a switch to their third engine only ahead of this Grand Prix.

When did hamilton change to his 3rd? No way Verstappen can finish the season with his engine, he will have to change it

Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix. Like I've mentioned before, this is a strategic place on the calendar for the last 'free' engine change for literally every team.

Yep, Verstappen effectively has three more Grand Prix on the mileage (Hungary, Holland & Belgium which was a complete wash but not practice). Everyone is on the last allocated engine from Monza onwards (Perez took his 4th in Zandvoort already plus Bottas in Monza). Any further changes will result in grid penalties.

    • Its a bit off top, but Turkmenistan also was only one country in the world without official case of covid
    • In the USSR, when Stalin died, there was de-Stalinization but some of his monuments remained, although, for example, the names of cities were changed. I feel sorry for the people living in Turkmenistan or smiliar countries but what can be done? The USA could to introduce some civilized life in Afghanistan but this government was so weak that it fell a few weeks after the Americans left. It would probably be similar here.
    • I love to see more competitions but we had the highest level for 6 weights in Paris, non-Olympic events also needed a top tier competition for this year of 2024.   considering the fact that the IOC is shrinking the competition to just 16 per weight, it wouldn't that bad to have a full 10 weight competition for each style, giving the chance to everybody.   but we would see lots of big names not participating because of the Olympics (and the recovery time after that) so I think that was the best solution.    ps: if it was up to me entirely  I think 8 weights is good enough for men (6 is too less, 10 is too much) and all of them should be in the Olympics. but unfortunately it's up to King T. and his goons.
    • I’ve only seen things related to the father of this current president. And not even much of that, everything had the face of the new one now.   but of course, I saw only what I was allowed to see , that is how things work if you want to visit it :-)
