Took a lot of time to confirm this, but it seems that Chloe Dygert is OK after surgery.  Must have bad at the time, reading between the lines.

The knee looked incredibly bad, yes. At least pretty soon after the crash we knew she was 'ok' in the sense that she was conscious and talking to medical personell.

So yeah, that's Olympic road race gold for Van der Breggen due to Van Vleuten's horror crash and world time trial title due to Dygert's horror crash (or at least in both cases with big help from the crashes, both Van Vleuten and Dygert were of course not entirely certain yet). Makes one wonder....Olympic time trial gold is the only thing missing in Van der Breggen's career now, should Van Vleuten and/or Dygert even start there? Seems rather risky :hairpull:

BBC Comms were saying she had been mostly training indoors, no race experience all year, so perhaps bike-handling skill levels not all there.  Road quality looked good, so possible hardware issue.

Good chance it was a hardware issue indeed, most likely something with the front tyre. One can have amazing or terrible bike-handling skills, when the front tyre goes at that speed going into a curve like that, you're just a passenger on your own bike, sadly :(

Zabelinskaia was found positive to covid19 and - obliviously - yesterday wasn't allowed to start the ITT

Wow. I mean, everyone more or less expected she'd test positive again some day, but that's not at all what I expected a year ago

Syrian guy is looking surprisingly good for someone who - most likely - has incredibly little in terms of infrastructure and facilities.

Are you implying there are no roads in Syria? :p

Think about half the country was fine - the war was mostly in the North up by the Iraqi border.

Wind & rain going to be a factor today, could get a surprise winner if someone mid-race gets a bit of luck.

    • I can finally piggyback off @vinipereira predictions to deliver my own    I'll be honest. I was rather busy during most of the awards season, so I wasn't able to see as much as I wanted to, or normally would have been able to. Therefore, I'm relying heavily on pundit predictions and general feel this time around.     If there was a category for best poster artwork, my nominees would be: Bugonia, Eddington, Dracula, The Sound of Falling, Sirāt   I'd give best animal acting to Pipa from Sirāt   And my favorite scenes from the year are... Kids getting bewitched, Weapons Gladys getting her just desserts, Weapons Car chase, One Battle After Another I Lied To You, Sinners Turn that shit up, Sirāt Playing with arrows, The Love That Remains Street dance, The Life of Chuck Cold open, Warfare Final scene, The Plague Ship prayer, The Testament of Ann Lee

    • Btw I highly recommend the short film 'Butterfly' which has a story related to the Olympics.
    • Once again here I am with my annual Oscar predictions post. Last year I predicted 13/23 winners which was my worst results ever by far. For the second consecutive year Brazil is nominated so I'm hoping that 'The Secret Agent' wins something, especially because it's a film from my home state. I watched 34 out of the 35 feature films (only 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' missing) and all 15 short films nominated, so I leave a personal ranking of all the categories.   ["will win" is my prediction / "could win", my alternate prediction / "should win", my personal ranking / "shoud have been nominated", a way to remember other notable work].
    • I don't know how soon that'll be though... and until then not holding my breath. Really wanted to see Caissie crushing balls at the Olympics, he deserved it for his play this tournament, and now he might not get the opportunity to. He's still young, but this will probably be Canada's best chance, and he'll only be around for Brisbane 2032 at best considering the bids in contention for 2036.    It just sucks, constant disappointment for the Canadians this year with barely anything to cheer for, and coming so close only to come up short... I'd rather us have just lost in the group stage
    • I think instead of allocating 2 spots here (for Americas) WBSC should have allowed 3 spots (rather than 2) in the 2027 WBSC premiere. ( 1 each for Asia, Europe & Americas)   That way it would have ensured two things : ONLY the top team from Americas gets the quota here ( deservedly so) additionally it would have allowed teams from Americas a second shot at qualification from the 2027 premieres.    Getting only 1 tournament , more than 2 years ahead of olympics is very harsh on the teams from Americas.
