and by the way, Amnat Ruenroeng* (THA) and Carmine Tommasone (ITA), the 2 only real "PRO" who have been outside the AIBA system untl now, will meet tomorrow in the Lightweights' Semifinal...

basically, this will be the only match with a bit of non-AIBA flavour not only of the entire tournament, but of the entire history of the AIBA connection with the world of real PROs...

a great success for the world governing body, I guess...:whistle::rofl::roflmao::facepalm::wall:

 

*by far the most successful boxer starting in this farce...he even fought 5 times for the IBF Flyweights World Title between 2014 and 2015 (beating former AIBA stars like McWilliams Arroyo, PUR and, above all, Zhou Shiming, CHN, one of the most overrated Olympic Champions - actually, double Olympic Champion - ever)...

There was also one pro (with record 14-0-0, apparently) who lost on knockout in the first minute of round one.

now it seems Polish fed made a big mistake sending only 1 boxer. It seems we could easily win some 2-3 other quota

everything is fine:)I think with this completely confusing and sometimes unfair system of scoring&judging in boxing, this sport should be seriously considered to be out of the Olympics as wrestling several years ago. May be, then the situation will change

      Basically, NOCs can attempt to qualify in additional events without gaining athlete quotas. For example, let's say a nation already qualified in the 4- and 4x, they can use the athletes they plan to send in those events and try to qualify in the 8+. That's where the extra coxswains will be used. If a nation intends to attempt to double-up they must let World Rowing know before the final qualifier regatta.   There's a good chance the quotas may not be used and will have to be reallocated. Looking at 2024, only  would have been eligible for the men while the women there's . With that said there's no guarantee they would have wanted to double-up their athletes.   In reality we are more likely to see the reverse, nations who qualified in the 4x, 4-, or 8+ doubling-up athletes for the 1x, 2x, 2-.

      In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)
