Well, I don't know what to say. Granted, we could probably make 10 teams better than the one we sent to the tournament but Latvia clearly showed they wanted that game and rightfully deserved to win and at the end of the day, this is great for international hockey. Congrats to any Latvians on the forum!

Well, It is not all over. The IIHF size rink was always kinda advantage for Euro teams in the opening games against CAN & USA when coming with international hockey inexperienced rosters. that was always the same, + this year CAN did not played any exhibition game on such rink so yeah the covid pandemic also did not help you at all, but even if this roster is arguably very week (in comparison of what CAN can obviously field) they are sill some great level players and once they will be used to this size rink and conditions they may still be medal threats. Remember the tournament is still very long, this was only 1st game.

Latvia played great match though + the fact no spectators were allowed helped them to not fall under some extra pressure, but in other hand maybe the opposite I believe would also work on their side, the young Canadians are not used to play in front of such fanatic fans jumping and shouting with drums the whole match

Anyway, the "incident" with the middle finger of Sharangovich towards our bench will very likely have a  continuation at the disciplinary commission of the tournament.

He however already apologized to the Slovak team and also to his own teammate and fans after the match.

"In today's match against Slovakia, my frustration resulted in a shameful and irresponsible gesture towards their bench. There is no excuse for this, I feel ashamed.

It doesn't reflect me as a player and a person. As a team captain, I have to be more respectful on and off the ice. Today I failed, I disappointed the team, the coaches and the fans. I will accet responsibilty for my actions, I want to apologize to the Slovak team. I want to learn from this moment and move forward,"

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
