Another new favorite sport of mine...love the new obstacle racing.

Re: qualification, we get 1 per gender, and can earn up to one more.  If we want the second, like in most sports like this, we have to qualify two (i.e. if we only qualify one, then that would have been the host quota anyway, so it would get reallocated).

Here's pathway to qualification:

1) Win the 2027 World Cup Final (don't see that happening)

2) Win the PanAms in Lima. (would need to get lucky)

3) Be in the top two NORCECA spots in Lima after the winner. (if we base this on 2023's PanAms, we would earn 1 W spot)

4) Be the top non-qualified athlete in 2027 WCh, or in the top 3 non-qualified athletes at WCh 2028 (don't see that happening)

5) Be the next 4 non-qualifieds in the rankings as of June 2028.  (Doubt it)

So, yeah, probably just the 1 per gender for us (though I'd love to see us develop more).

We did medal back in 2000...one of our female athletes (Emily de Riel) won a silver...the first time a women's MP was held!

BTW, I do see a World Cup set in 2027 for West Hollywood @Olympian1010

Oh, cool. I haven't looked that far ahead (when it comes to non multi-sport games competitions) just yet. I was lucky enough to the go the UIPM World Cup the last time it was in LA in 2017. We actually had an awesome double that week, with the both modern pentathlon and track cycling in town. I went to both, and had a lot of fun at both :d

Track Cycling is another sport I'm newer to, but I find it quite satisfying.  Too bad it's not easily viewable here.  (Am I correct in that one would need to subscribe to both FloBikes and HBO Max to see all events (track+road)?  Seems some events are geoblocked on one but not the other.)

With Pentathlon, since the USA is HQed in Charlotte, I hope they'll eventually have a(nother) comp there.  They just had nationals there in December, but I wasn't able to go.  Would love to see (and if my ideal LA28 schedule comes to fruition, we won't be there when it's contested in LA.)

Right agreements vary by event. Peacock has a good bit of road cycling too.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
