But this road is probably in much better condition than it was at the beginning of the 21st century? By the way, is it possible to build a second road there to alleviate traffic, or is it geographically unrealistic?

Yeah, we don't really pay much attention to it.  We have one athlete who managed to qualify, but the sport overall is pretty much nonexistent here. The two sports you mentioned are probably our best chances this year. Hockey is the most popular sport, almost like a second religion in the country, and has been for decades. Biathlon and Alpine skiing are also closely followed due to recent years of success.

 

I know about Ski Jumping (and Volleyball when it comes to summer sports), but are there any other sports with a strong and successful history in Poland? There must be more disciplines that have brought consistent international success or have a particularly big following.

 

I went to Krakow a few years ago, it's a beautiful place with a great atmosphere. The city has a unique charm that really stays with you. It's not surprising that everyone who visits ends up praising its stunning architecture and historic character.

I just don't want it to be like Turin 2006, which was a huge trauma for me to this day. And after these Olympics are over, I plan to take a 2- 3 month break from all sports watching, as it's been taking a toll on my health lately.

Warsaw was long time ago called the "Paris of the North" - it was before World War II and Krakow is probably similar in terms of architecture to Lviv.

why do you make yoursef so angry/frustrated?

relax, man! enjoy the sport, not those fuckin' flags beside the athletes (especially those days where often it's only about mecenaries and not native people)

What happened in 2006 was the only such event from 1932 to the present times, including both the Summer and Winter Olympics. A repeat of this 20 years later would be a shame, no matter what we call it.

I'm pretty sure USA would eventually win the medal table, even if Klaebo could win even more gold medals than Stolz (actually, the 6-gold campaign is not completely out of order for him, given what he showed last weekend)

 

it will depend mostly on biathlon and the freeski disciplines, I think those will make the difference (given that Stolz + women's alpine skiing for USA = Klaebo + speedskating for NOR)

I think you start from the wrong viewpoint: look at the history of the Winter Games; we never won more than 19 medals/7golds (and it happened once in 1994, when we all know that we were in the "Conconi & Ferrari age")

 

we just can't pretend to become a powerhouse in something we always kept aside as a marginal interest (being at home or not, it doesn't make any difference, given that nobody spent money nor energy to promote the Winter Sports in this Country -and nobody will never do it)
