I don't understand what you're complaining about, honestly it's a pretty pointless match that won't get you to the second round.

In volleyball at the World Championships, we played a "pointless" match against Belgium and won 3-1. If you're strong, you beat someone below you, and if you lose, it means you're out of form.

well, baseball (softball) is quite a different sport, every single day is way different from another

it's absolutely normal to have a day where you hit every ball you get and the following day not hitting a watermelon

moreover, pitchers make all the difference in the world...if you play someone having a mediocre day on the mound (in the circle), there's no way you can escape a bad loss

the beauty of this sport is that you can lose 20-0 and then win 1-0 the following day and it's pretty normal (that's why the playoffs -the finals, at least- in every league are played with best-of-7 series, 1 game doesn't mean anything, it's just a coincidence)

by the way, :ITA destroyed :ISR earlier this morning (not a pain in the ass like Yesterday's football match) and Tonight they face the first truly important match of this championship against the Host Nation :CZE (7.30 p.m CET, live for free on the Czech public TV)

So how do you explain Italy and the Netherlands' dominance of softball in Europe in the 21st century? The top 2 teams here seem very stable.

So, why was our match against Spain doesn`t count, while the one against the Czech Republic does? Given that it's the same stage of the tournament?

I'm surprised that this sport is so popular there that it's broadcast on public television (even assuming they're hosting the European Championships). It's a big think in Italy when they show the women's volleyball World Championship final on Rai Uno or the women's Eurobasket medal matches on Rai Due. In Italy public tv may have showed softball during the Olympics, but probably in a short fragment a few minutes, am I right?

I know that in :NED it came in via the Caribbean colonies.  But Dutch children in general like to be involved in club and team sports.  Even back in the early 80 you used to see baseball diamonds a lot there, long before the days when it was on TV.

I'm surprised by our success in such unpopular sports as baseball, softball and even water polo, considering that only calcio is popular in the media and, recently, tennis exist here because of Sinner. Even volleyball has a weak position, considering our great successes on last 30 years. Broadcasting softball on public television, not during the Olympics, would be a momentous event in Italy :P

The finals of the softball Italian league were on RaiSport literally a few weeks ago. And baseball is as well, including tonight.

it's just a preliminary game (played at lunch time) that doesn't count for anything, we didn't play our best pitchers and that's the result

nothing is compromised

Not sure I'd agree with that - losing to :ESP means the match against :CZE becomes almost a must win match.

Going into the final pool carrying a 1-1 record gives you a solid chance of making it to the Championship Match. Taking a 0-2 record will make that much more difficult. At best, you'd be looking at competing for the bronze medal.

Panama is my dark horse team for the tournament and Cuba isn't looking too pretty these days to be honest especially on offense although Canada, Panama and Cuba are all probably roughly in the same tier. Maybe Puerto Rico as well since they're missing their 3 best players on offense.
