Water Polo Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Recommended Posts

In Italy, unfortunately, our girls are too weak physically, and you can't solve this problem... You need to be physically fit for this sport, just like in women's volleyball in these times, you need have to be 180+ centimeters to play good in attack. Otherwise, it won't work. The Italian Swimming Federation needs to look for strong and tall girls for water polo, because we'll always be weak. Look at those girls from the Netherlands or the USA...

At this point Brazil is the favourite to take the Olympic quota. They were unfortunate in their draws during the league stage. Based on their pre-suspended performances, Russia is a good team and Georgia has been on the edge of being decent.

On a good day Canada can defeat Brazil, but we also have days where we lose to Ukraine, a team that loses to Malta on the regular.

As for 2028, let's hope South Africa decides to compete. We could also take on China/Japan.

Well, I suppose our federation is going to bet everything on this team, after all we probably won't have a chance for the next 50 years. So it's quite possible they'll improve by the decisive moment.

But still, if we qualify, I hope they at least show a decent level of performance, rather than -35 goal difference or worse.

It was be good in 2016?

Alma Yaacobi- she played in Italy for several years and, in my opinion, could play in the Italian NT, especially since she won't achieve anything with Israel anyway. World Aquatics has very liberal regulations and she could play for Italy very quickly.

What? The naturalizations we did?

I'm not a fan of that, but it was the cheapest investment we had. The teams had improved, even our women's team wasn't a complete disaster and sometimes managed to trouble teams like Canada and China, at least until our main star chose to play for Italy. But that's the most we can hope for here. As for the legacy, I think our aquatic sports federation was the one that took the least advantage of it, and due to its incompetence, the level of swimming, diving, and artistic swimming hasn't shown a good future either.

Izabella Chiappini

She competed for Brazil until 2016, then went to Italy, but there was a scandal and she returned to compete for Brazil.

I don't remember if she even played for Italy and when? I remember Araujo well- it was the golden Italian team.
