Taekwondo Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Most people know taekwondo from watching the Olympics. However, only sparring is recognized in the Games - poomsae (forms) is completely left out. It's time for the Olympic program to acknowledge poomsae and give taekwondo's artistic discipline the recognition it deserves.

Make Poomsae an Olympic Sport

Poomsae (like Kata in Judo and Karate) has nothing to do with sport!

artistic disciplines (with political distribution of medals) must stay away from the Olympics!!! :bones::bones::bones:

actually, it's time to increase the weight classes and the number of competitors in each weight class in the fighting discipline :pope:

I agree NO to Poomsae!!!

I think they plan to introduce 6 weight classes after LA instead of 8 right now, and those 6 should become Olympic instead of current 4 weights. Going forward world and Olympic ranking could be identical.

But it’s not clear if that means more quotas. Having 6 classes with 64 athletes per gender would be a joke. A reasonable taekwondo competition needs at least 16 athletes per weightclass. But I am not sure taekwondo can get another 64 quotas in total, I doubt it.

beside that I am not happy with the newly proposed weight classes, they give much more focus on light weight athletes, which will be an advantage for Asian countries mainly.

if the proposal is accepted the new weightclasses will be:

Female: 46kg, 51kg, 57kg, 63kg,70kg and +70kg

Male: 54kg, 60kg, 67kg,74kg, 82kg, +82kg
