Next season’s schedule is now out!

Quite a shame that the Montreal Elite16 went away, the crowds there were some of the best I’ve seen all year long.

Playa del Carmen Elite16 :MEX

Women’s Tournament

Gold- :BRA Carol Solberg/Rebecca Cavalcanti

Silver- :USA Terese Cannon/Megan Kraft

Bronze- :USA Kristen Nuss/Taryn Brasher

Shoutout to my new favourite :SUI pairing of Hüberli/Kernen, who have backed up their silver at the Yucatán Challenge by recording a quarterfinal finish here by defeating Olympic Champions :BRA Duda/Ana Patricia in straight sets in the round of 12 (to be fair, they looked off all event long, but the Swiss also beat Nuss/Brasher). This team definitely has what it takes to be a top 5 team and consistently contending for medals. First time watching Kernen play, all I can say is how is she that good at only 19? She’s gonna be a star in the future.

Men’s Tournament

Gold- :CUB Noslen Diaz/Jorge Alayo :yikes:

Silver- :ARG Tomas Capogrosso/Nicolas Capogrosso :yikes:

Bronze- :USA Chaim Schalk/James Shaw :yikes:

Schalk/Shaw defeated Olympic champions :SWE Ahman/Hellvig in the quarterfinals :yikes:

Honestly, even though :CAN Mel/Brandie had 2 SP’s of their own in that set, good on them for coming back from down 0-6 and saving multiple SP’s :yes (OK, a lot of them were from missed/into the net serves but still)

    • I'm not sure that's right, I believe it goes group stage record then finish in group play (that's what a lot of people seem to think) then runs allowed per recorded defensive out
    • So Canada is ahead of Puerto Rico in the second tiebreaker, but currently it's  >  >  in the third tiebreaker.   If this holds up there's going to be a lot of Canadians arguing that Puerto Rico should be eliminated due to the second tiebreaker, but I think the second tiebreaker only applies if all teams have head to head results.

    • about the Olympic qualification   For Olympic qualifying standings, the first tiebreaker is winning percentage over the entire WBC. The Dominican Republic has the edge there after going 4-0 in group play. Canada, Puerto Rico and Venezuela each went 3-1.   The second tiebreaker is head-to-head result (if applicable), followed by runs allowed per recorded defensive out over the entire WBC   good luck if CAN, PUR and VEN all lose in the quarters
    • my guess is Logan Webb with Clay Holmes piggybacking (in the quarterfinals starters are allowed up to 80 pitches)
