It was similar to 2006 event or not? In 2006 it was a early December, I think.

I don't think the last few days can compare to anything sports related in recent times. At least not in the last 20 or so years. My memory of 2006 isn't that strong, but i'm fairly certain it was nowhere near as euphoric, as it has been now.

The sudden rise of media and regular people's attention to the team has been sky high. The final on Sunday was broadcasted simultaneously by 4 networks, including our biggest 3 National broadcasters, which has never happened before for a sporting event. Yesterday it was basically talked in every show. Today they had an all-day special program for the homecoming, with coverage beginning in early morning, anticipating the return all the way from the Istanbul airport.

We have had sporting successes recently of course, Olympic champions and such, but i can't remember so much attention and discussions being made before. When we were getting the Olympic medals last year, or other sporting big results, sure they are mentioned and covered by our National broadcasters, but it was like a 4-5 minute thing in the Evening news and some interviews in other shows afterwards. There were definitely no parades or multiple hour long panel discussions about the athletes, sports, society role models etc.

Yet today, even though the TV's were showing live coverage with panels for hours, the Evening news emissions still had basically a 30 minute recap of everything around the volleyball team and something like 6-7 minutes for all other news of the day. It's very weird to me :d

Maybe World Cup 1994?

In my opinion, 2006 was a big missed opportunity by the Bulgarian federation. That team had enormous potential, but especially after 2010, the Bulgarian federation began to chronic financial problems and the results were worse and worse, although they still placed 4th at the OG in 2012. In that 2006, Poland and Bulgaria were a very sensation together, but then Poland moved forward, while Bulgaria, I think, failed to capitalize on that success due to the federation's incompetence. Hopefully, this time it will be different.

Simone Anzani say goodbye Italian NT:( He doesn't have an Olympic medal to his name and won't win one. However, the decision is understandable, as he'll be 36 in 2028 and likely wouldn't be able to play on both sides: club and NT team- especially knowing his health problems - heart disease.
