I don't know what to think about the semifinals.

Maybe this?

:CZE - :BUL

:POL - :ARG

Instead of :ARG I predict :BEL . They really impressed me this tournament (especially Ferre Reggers, one of the best opposites in the world right now).

I'm not impressed with them. I mean, Micheletto is always spectacular, but the rest of the team doesn't seem to be playing well enough right now.

What a crazy group stage.

Going by seeding we lost: :FRA:CUB:GER:JPN:BRA and given the group :EGY getting eliminated was also a bit of a surprise. While :UKR out seeded :BEL they were ranked quite closely.

Italy looks more beatable than France but I don't trust some of our players to have two good games in a row :p

For us there isn`t worse rival than France and Poland, so it's OK :) But playing like we did even today, we won't be the favorites. As of today here, anyone can beat anyone , except maybe for Poland, who are pretty sure to win gold.

W can beat Argentina and Belgium/Fin but we must play for our solid level, just like in summer VNL. With Brazil and France out, probably only Poland is out of our reach, but we must to play better than in the group.

Overall, I think this is probably the worst level since the early 21st century – I don't remember it being this bad. We have only one top-class team- Poland and basically nothing. Brazil used to be the best, but there were still strong others teams: Russia, Italy, USA, Yugoslavia, etc. Now, Poland basically has no one to lose to. I don't think even Brazil 20 years ago was as safe as Poland is now.

Some things about Brazil: I believe Rezende must go away, but even he's no magician. The scale of this sport's decline in Brazil over the past 10 years has been demonstrated by the successive junior age groups. I understand that juniors are just juniors, but losses to Kazakhstan, Finland, Korea, Indonesia and similar level rivals are simply shameful for a country with such a tradition as Brazil. Clearly, something is wrong with the system and it's not just a problem with Rezende, or Ze Roberto in the women's. That's why I'm confident about France- they have talented young players and they will became strong, even if they fall today. The same is for Italy and Poland. However, in Brazil, the problem seems to do systemic changes, not only whether Rezende has to leave and be replaced by some X or Y.

Theoretically, yes, so far. But Rezende, in addition to coaching the senior team, has also been the coordinator of the Brazilian men's national teams since this year. In other words, he will oversee both the main team and the U21, U19, and U17 teams. The same goes for Zé Roberto's women's team.

    • I won't write about injuries (Fede) and non-sporting matters (Colturi), but the fact is that Italy has its worst start to the season in alpine skiing in over 10 years... Just one victory, and podiums- if any, they're mostly 3 places. We're also not leading in any of the season standings, no in the women's or men's categories. This isn't be it should be in an Olympic year in your country, where you're having your worst season in many years.
    • Plaisier blew 3 match darts and Ratajski comes back to win!
    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
    • Mikaela Shiffrin  off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner  entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.
    • Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel with a 5th place PB in Semmering GS!
