So Hollmann is auto qualified as the winner. Based on my quick calculations, Antoine Cyr and Remi Drolet are also qualified as the next highest placed athletes on the combined results point list. Assuming no one is granted exceptional status, the winner of the sprint tomorrow will get the. 5th and final quota. But if one of the above four athletes wins, then Graham Ritchie will get the quota as the next highest athlete ok the points list. This means that McKeever and Leveille are most likely out.

We have five quotas for men now???

So McKeever won the sprint today so it looks like he will take the final quota instead and Graham Ritchie will be out. So the men's team should be

  • Antoine Cyr
  • Remi Drolet
  • Maximillian Hollmann
  • Xavier McKeever
  • Tom Stephen

Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt won the women's Sprint. Liliane Gagnon might be placed on the team with exceptional status, so she might not be on the Olympic team. The team would be:

  • Jasmine Drolet
  • Alison Mackie
  • Katherine Stewart-Jones
  • Sonjaa Schmidt
  • Amelia Wells
  • Liliane Gagnon/Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt

It's possible Canada gets reallocated a 7th quota so there could still be room for everybody.

Currently 3 quotas need to be returned, meaning we'd only need one decline of a quota spot to get a 7th women's quota.

Fingers crossed for a 6th men's spot (highly unlikely, we would need 8 declines)

And same with Graham Ritchie who just missed out on a medal in the team sprint at the last Olympics with Cyr in fifth. Thought for sure they would have teamed up again and won a medal in Italy.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
