Luge Discussion | Qualification to Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Recommended Posts

Looks like a big battle for 2 second quotas in men`s singles. After the big 5 (:AUT:GER:ITA:USA:LAT) 2 second quotas are at the stake.

According to my calculations 2nd best athletes:
:UKR - 55
:SVK:AIN - 37

:ROU - 35
:CAN - 33

If someone doesn't finish the second run, is it 20, not 30? That's the logical conclusion, of course, but sometimes they come up with all sorts of nonsense.

Hmm, according to the WC standings 30 are awarded for the 13th place.

If the second run is not finished it is ten points, equivalent to the top ranked finisher in the nations cup race who did not qualify for the world cup race.

But why should someone be placed 30th if they advanced to the second run, not the 20th? These are rules made up by idiots. Secondly, the man should have finished the run if they knew they would. In this case, Felderer risks losing his 3rd place for county because he couldn't finish safely theur run – the only one in the entire field. :hairpull:

It's just stupid rule. But the competitor, seeing this, should at least cross the finish line on his own two feet.

I agree it is stupid, exactly what happened to Jozef Ninis last week.

In short track, it used to be that if you DSQ, you were relegated to last place, but they changed that. And here, a DNF isn't even DSQ... And in speed skating, the USA athlete has been deliberately DNF  the 500 meters in several competitions and still earning points in the standings. Shame.

Not just Erin Jackson, but several others like for instance Joep Wennemars. Think of it what you may, it’s all down to the way the rules are written up. The rationale is probably to prevent that a rider that falls is automatically relegated to the B group.

This website is scandalous... The World Cup standings in men's single haven't been updated since yesterday competition... There are no any links to the Olympic rankings (they're not the same as the World Cup!). I don't know what these people are getting paid, but it looks like complete amateurs for me:hairpull:

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
