Cross-Country Skiing Discussion | Qualification to Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Interesting to note that after all the information about :AIN not using flags or names, that is exactly what the FIS have done in their qualification table. It makes it understandable, but kind of strange still.

FIS has already published what happens here: https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/v2/quota/list/owg/cc/2026 They basically continued giving quotas from where they stopped back in March. So in Men's it was :CAN then :NOR then :SWE , in women's it was :UKR , :JPN:LAT:CHN

If only they'd continue after China instead of going all the way back to the top (of those with under 8 quota) again.

.

An interesting detail. Russians still use fluorine in domestic races. Therefore, they do not have normal experience in using modern ski waxes and do not have experience in preparing skis for fast Alpine snow too.

In this situation, the :ITA Italian team helps them prepare their skis. Marcus Kramer, who has experience working in Russia and now works with Italy, used his current position to help the Russians prepare their skis.

@copravolley Is Italian ski federation ok with this? And if they will get Italian wax-service at the Olympics?

Am I correct this allocation is not final and :AND :ARM :TPE have time till the 19th of Janiary to get proper FIS-points?

First Swedish Olympia selection today including these cross country skiiers:

Frida Karlsson

Jonna Sundling

Ebba Andersson

William Poromaa

Edvin Anger

These skiiers also selected to the olympics:
Maja Dahlqvist

Moa Ilar

Linn Svahn

Johanna Hagström

Emma Ribom

Alvar Myhlback

Anton Grahn

But one of Svahn, Hagström and Ribom will probably just be there watching as we can only pick two sprinters apart from Sundling and Dahlqvist who should be safe. And Karlsson, Andersson, Ilar and Sundling will probably go all distance races.

As far as I know, yes. I don't think I have seen anyone of those three countries active recently besides Del Rio, Galstyan and Velicer respectively, but Andorra and Taiwan used to have more than one athlete capable of doing so, so who knows.

I know Taiwan will have someone compete in the Far East Cup races in :KOR Alpensia Thursday and Friday (just like Brazil, which is rather problematic for us and might, with some bad luck, kill 'our' chances for the Olympics, but let's see). I assume that is Velicer, but you never know, they weren't willing to give an actual entry list.

Didn't Svahn say she'd boycott it if Russians/Belarussians were allowed to compete? That should make that choice slightly easier.

Where did you get this information? I use the portal above, and if this information isn't there, I'm surprised. The federation's website is more official, while fondo.it would definitely post if there was such information.

Andorra likely would reject any additional women's quotas

Any other countries you think might reject something? I know it's just speculation, but still.

    • I will try for Croatia:    Archery (1) : we never had a representative, but were two times very close. I think we have a chance in Recurve for a single male quota, and in mixed compound,  Realistic one quota    Athletics (8) : difficult as many things will change in the next 2-3 seasons, but let's. say 8, I think that could be a realistic number   Badminton (1) : hopefully our Indonesian import will manage to qualify     Basketball (0): small chances in both male and 3x3 male teams , but somehow I doubt it    Boxing (2): two male quotas    Canoe slalom (1). maybe with a small chance for two places, but one is realistic    Canoe sprint (1): similar to slalom, maybe two, but one is realistic, but lets see how the new qualification system plays out    Cycling (2): would bee very happy with a quota in BMX freestyle and male road race    Diving (1): hoping that Matej Nevescanin will qualify    Fencing (0): very small chance in mens foil, but I guess will not happen.    football (0): there is always talks about our male team, but never succeeded, I am afraid will be the same for LA 2028    Artistic gymnastics (4): Kovtun plus two additional male quotes plus one female   Handball (14): the mens team should qualify    Judo (5): four female quota plus one male    Rowing (5). difficult to say as boats/crews are not defined yet. But I expect 4 mens places plus 1 female. Maybe more, but let see    Sailing (6): somehow not a good development in this sports, could be even less than 6 quotas.    Shooting (5): hopefully two trap and two male rifle quotas plus one surprise    Swimming (6): will be brave here and say 5 male plus one female. I think we have a realistic chance to qualify a freestyle relay.    Table tennis (5): hope for 3 male and two female quotas incl. mixed doubles (Arapovic/Ban)   Tennis (6): still too early, and always the question who is really interested in playing.   Taekwondo (3): I am seeing two females plus one male qualifying   Waterpolo (11): mens team should be safe, small chance for our women's team.   Wrestling (1) considering the Russian expansion, one quota would be great     in all other sports hopeless case for Croatia. But 88 would be a great delegation, probably too optimistic
