Team GB Daily: Day 14

I mean they won 13 more points in sprints than any other country (and 3 more pts than they got in the WC last year that they won).

So I'd say that they prepared pretty well myself...

In other news, rumours abound about a protest against the British women's sprinters.

They need a rule that says 30 mins after the finish it’s all done and final.

Two PBs in the seven events for KJT, plus her best High Jump for over five years, and I think her second best ever Javelin. Ironically, if she 'lost' it anywhere, it was on events where she's normally super-solid - Hurdles, 200m and Long Jump, where she probably barely hit par, in terms of points scored. Honestly don't think she lost anything though - that's a superb Silver.

Just caught up on Joe Choong's results today - even if he'd had a perfect ride, in addition to his 1st-place swim and 1st-place laser run, he'd still only have come 3= in his SF. Really is SO annoying about the Fencing RR yesterday.

Precisely why Kate and Kerenza can feel good; they don’t have relatively good swims but hopefully with solid rides they can be up there. Kate has a very solid laser run in particular as we saw in tokyo

    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory

    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?

    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
