I might be a little conservative, but it is the Olympics.

Heartbreak will happen!
Jess Fox could win all 3 in Slalom, but I put one gold

as for Rowing, the Mens 8 have gone all out .Ive picked them to win.

Surfing should be Gold, but conservatively,Ive got Ethan Irvin for Bronze

Ive got no idea on 3x3 basketball,so you got me interested.

Swimming is my main interest.

10 is very possible but could be more or less!

Its probably our only chance ever to defeat the US tally.

Yeah I know I probably should be setting my expectations lower 馃槀. Without a doubt swimming is gonna make or break it all.
I鈥檝e gone with woman鈥檚 3x3 basketball getting a bronze as they are apparently ranked well and actually qualified this time, whilst I don鈥檛 think the boomers will get a medal this time around.

I also hope for the gold in surfing due to Australia鈥檚 good past performances at the venue in Tahiti. I was thinking maybe with Jack Robinson.

As for defeating the US in swimming it can for sure happen if we reach that mark, but it鈥檚 gonna be close such as Kaylee needing to win all 3 of her races, and hoping for things such as pan beating Dressel and whatnot.

As for the canoeing I鈥檝e got Fox winning K1 and C1, but not medalling in cross. This is very possible as she has done this double at world cups before, but Olympics is obviously different ball game.

No doubt that we need some of the Chinese and Euros to beat the US Swimmers.

That is also the same with Australia, such as the Mens 400m Free and Womens sprints (50 and 100m Free)

As for Pan beating Dressel, that wont happen as Dressel failed to qualify for the 100m Free.Although Jack Alexy came through with a 47.0,I dont see anyone  challenging Pan or Popovici for 100m title.

I'm confident with Kaylee, despite Regan Smith breaking her record in the 100m Back.Smith has had a stack of opportunities to break it this year and finally does it with 20,000 people behind her. Kaylee hasnt raced all that much and has her own plans to swim under 57 sec.

Come Olympics, watch out for Kaylee who is a big time performer

Ah yes Dressel didn鈥檛 even qualify for 100 free what was I thinking 馃槀.

But I did have him on my mind considering those 3 gold he won in Tokyo that I think the US will likely not defend. 100m free as you mentioned, 50m free which is assumed to be between McEvoy and proud, and then 100m butterfly, which will be his best chance but no guarantee with the likes of Grousset and milak

then there鈥檚 also the 400im which Kalisz won in Tokyo but surely Marchand will be the strong favourite over foster. Also Finke wouldn鈥檛 be a lock in the 800

so that鈥檚 around 4 golds that I could see them not defending, whereas for us I鈥檝e got 3 (w50), woman鈥檚 medley and Zsc but 2 very strong replacements in 4x200f and 200im.

It really opens the door

Based on my predictions for Swimming,Ive got the US at 8 Gold.

W 100m Backstroke -Regan Smith.

This is 50/50 and could well go to Kaylee.Ive only got Smith ahead as she just broke the WR

M 100m Butterfly -Caeleb Dressel

Dressel for the Gold, but this event is stacked with 5-6 guys around the same time.

W 800m Butterfly -Gretchen Walsh

This one is solid for the USA who could easily go 1-2

W 800m/1500m Freestyle

Katie Ledecky -Nothing more to be said

M 1500m Freestyle -Bobby Finke

Without Hafanoui ,Finke is the favourite here

M 4x 100m Freestyle

USA will take down the WR here.Heavy favourites

W 4 x 100m Medley Relay

USA Women's have 3 of the WR holders in this (Smith,King and Walsh)

USA Men's Breastroke is currently worse than Australia and they will likely struggle against the Chinese in the Medley Relay

GB look too good for Mens 4 x 200m Free relay.

I love this but it also seems very optimistic. Dressel and Smith are the only events that aren鈥檛 heavy favourites that you鈥檝e given gold to. M800 free, M100 back, M200 back,  Men鈥檚 medley, W200 fly, W200 breast, W200 back, W200IM and mixed medley are all possibilities. I find it hard to believe they鈥檒l convert 0 of those

I think with Kaylee it鈥檚 probably smart heading in to assume that she doesn't win least 1 of her backstroke events to smith, probably 100.
If she just goes on to successfully defend both that would honestly be crazy as with Aus only a few swimmers have ever done that.

At this games she could become our greatest ever swimmer if she wins all 3 events

And I think there is inevitably going to be a disappointing result for us, such as mcintosh surprising Titmus or no gold in the w100free.
I guarantee at every Olympics in swimming there has been at least 1 massive disappointment for us, such as w4x200 relay in Tokyo.

At least there is no way we could do as bad as rio or London, and thank god for that 馃槀馃槀

I鈥檓 hoping for it but I鈥檒l be shocked if Kaylee wins all 3. She is the solid favourite in the 200 back but the other 2 are toss ups at best

    • The problem is XD is a fun event, but its essentially a social event, and lags far behind the others both at Grand Slams and Olympics - no quotas of its own, very limited prize money - as the indivisual Olympic tennis has got more and more important, the top players have limited thhier doubles participation to the main M and W D.   a team format, however, gets some fo that BJK/Davis cup magic, and because it'll b enovel, they can REALLY mess around with it - for example, a three set match could consists of MS first set, WS second and, if needed mixed doubles decider - light work load and quick competition. could play three matches a day if needed   Would not be incredibly shocked if BOTH golf and tennis adopted a quickfire 'Olympic' format - Singles, singles, doubles - (In golf it would be 9 hole matchplay with sets replaced with 9 hole matches, and the order men's indi, women's indi, mixed foursome   On Compound, nice to see it but odd too for GB - Ella Gibson is one of the outstanding shooters of her time, but GBR don't seem to have a male compound shooter worth a candle   On voluntary team sports (Flag football, cricket, lacrosse) I smell a rankings heavy approach with continental rep limited to 3 - though they may be real sneaky with cricket and go host (USA), Euro 1(GBR), Oceania 1(Aus), Asia (1)(India) Africa 1(South Africa) and Final Qualifier 1, heavily loaded with Asia and West Indies individual teams, perhaps Ireland and New Zealand for the appearance of balance.   The Iroquois question still unresolved. GBR would be a rankings pick in everything bar men's flag football   Wonder about the Team gymnastics - Super quick fire high peril format maybe of just one gymnast per apparatus, with the floor and vault reserved to the women so each sex provide only 4 scores - would make it feel different to the existing team events, and make USA a less guaranteed gold. Qualifiation by highest score in overall Q in each event - even if that score comes from same athlete in multiple events

    • https://worldboxing.org/ioc-confirms-gender-parity-in-boxing-at-la28-with-seven-weight-classes-for-both-men-and-women/       Well I didn't see this coming but eh world boxing have gotten rid of men's flyweight!!!!! Non Olympics weights are now 50kg, 75kg and 85kg for the men and 48kg, 80kg and 80+kg for the women. I think it is good news that they haven't added womens heavyweight but men's flyweight being gone is a shocker especially for "smaller" nations. In Rio like we had both 49 and 52kg below 56kg but now flyweight is gone completely. I mean it is tricky to have 10 weightclasses and then have only 7 for the Olympics and for both the 10 and the 7 to be evenly spaced out but like im very surprised that its flyweight thats gone and not one of 55,60,65kg. To be honest selfishly from an Irish perspective at least for this cycle I don't hate it but flyweight was one of the most competitive divisions so it being gone will hurt the weaker (well i couldn't make the small joke twice) boxing countries.   Just for context the Paris weights were (M51, M57, M63.5, M71, M80, M92 and M92+ and then W50, W54, W57, W60, W66, W75)

    • That's why they only offered 750 points to the winner as an initial compromise. If you were the 4th/5th best player in your nation and were not selected due to NOC limits and you cared about points you would be better off competing at a different event at the same time. With a depleted field you'd likely earn more points there anyway.   It was more because ATP/WTA tournaments held at the same time were losing out on players and thus attendance for the tournaments were low.
