Isn’t a guarantee that we’d win the set of course, but now there’s always gonna be a “what if?” if we lose this match, because of this ref being a complete and utter moron.

They should’ve been relegated each of the last three years, but the stupid “core team” bullshit kept them in VNL. I’m glad :THA is staying rather than :KOR

Thailand sometimes seems like an amateur team. I wasn't a big fan of them in this tournament.

But they definitely deserve a spot here more than Korea.

:CAN defeat :THA in 5!! :cheer::yes

Hilary Johnson with 25 points, and Maglio with 19 points including 8 blocks!

We finish VNL with a 3-9 record, honestly pretty pleased with most of the matches considering the squad we’ve sent (no Gray, and KVR/Brie not playing weeks 2/3)

Hilary Johnson has to be the player of VNL for Canada, with 166 points. Emily Maglio also had a solid showing with 123 points. Hadn’t heard of Nyadholi Thokbuom (hope she’s okay, she took a ball to the face against China and hasn’t played since) before this VNL, but she had a senior NT debut to remember and I’m excited to see what she can do for us in the future. But I’ve been especially impressed with the youngsters, Abby Guezen, who’s only 19 years old and swinging rockets and Anna Smrek, who’s pretty much a wall at the net.

Quarterfinals

:ITA v. :USA

:BRA v. :GER

:JPN v. :TUR
:POL v. :CHN

Winning the round without taking any games and then catching the U.S. in the quarters... Something that can only happen to Italy  :pope:

They shouldn’t be too much of an issue for :ITA if they’re not fielding their entire A-squad… otherwise they could put up a fight but I still see Italy winning.

Quarterfinals start today! :cheer: (as long as I don’t wake up too late/don’t fall asleep)

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it I might watch the FISU Games volleyball instead, after all we only get it once every four years.

I'm surprised at how consistent Poland has been in recent years, even with some very obvious weaknesses.

However, for the world championship this could be a problem, just as it was at the Olympics.

    • It's hard to believe it was still in this calendar year
    • In last year, we were were happy with Brignone's wins, and today we're excite that della Mea is in the top 10... It's hard to imagine a bigger fall... And Goggia should give up on the giant slalom and focus on the speed events – Vonn isn't wasting time on the giant slalom, but is training for downhill and SG. Goggia last one finished on the podium in the giant slalom in march 2018, and she has no any chance of winning an Olympic medal at the regular competition. It's a waste of time and energy to finish 8th or 9th and risk injury. And we have to accept that without Brignone, we have no chance of winning a medal in the giant slalom in Cortina, and that's it.
    • yeah, just like Anna Trocker earlier Today   I think this is the best way to blow them    they're not ready for the world cup stage yet, but we're so bad right now that our coaches are digging deep
    • Some surprises and fun results so far at this year's Worlds. Like a few minutes ago, when  Harrysson made the 1/8 with another very good performance. Now he plays Jonny Clayton, who this afternoon made a stellar performance in a tough battle with Zonneveld. I don't see an easy match for Clayton, even though on paper he would have wished such an opponent for a 1/8 before the tournament.   Also i'm delighted that my fav Gary Anderson seems to be in good form, though at his age, he is prone to sudden bad matches at any time.
