Both lf those won medals. If Boxing falls to get even one the pressure will be on considerably particularly if the whole narrative of the entire team is a big drop in medals.

Not sure Stubley deserved the shot over Resztan.

Broadhurst ultimately deserves it, I’d say Shona Whitwell was second choice but Broadhurst should win a medal, you wouldn’t say that of the others

Scott Richards lost to  Nijat Huseynov in the first round

Ellis Trowbridge lost to  Asilbek Jaliliov in the first round

 

Featherweight (57Kg):

Owain Harris-Allen lost to  Orazbek Assylkulov in the first round.

 

Lightweight (60Kg):

Jack Dryden - defeats  Maksud Khasmetov in the first round before losing to  Adam Hession in the quarter-final.

 

Light Welterweight (63.5Kg):

Patris Mughalzai defeats  Malik Hasanov in the first round before losing to  Dean Clancy in the quarter-final.

 

Light Middleweight (71Kg):

Patrick Hewitt lost in the first round to  Farukh Tokhtassunov.

 

Light Heavyweight (80Kg):

Dimeji Shittu defeats  Steliyan Starhilov in the first round, follwoing that up with a victory over  Alfred Commey in the quarter-final to guarantee himself a medal.. 

 

Cruiserweight (86Kg):

Teagn Stott defeats  Murad Allahverdiyev in the first round. He then lost to  Nurbek Oralbay in the quarter-final.

 

Heavyweight (92kg):

Isaac Okoh lost in the first round to  Turabek Khabibullaev.

 

Super Heavyweight (+92Kg):

Damar Thomas defeats  Abdurakhmon Rustamov in the first round. He then defeats  Ordan Morehon in the quarter-final. He leaves with a bronze after withdrawaing from his semi-final. 

 

Women's Results

Light Flyweight (50Kg):

Kelsey Oakley lost in the first round to  Gulnar Turapbay.

 

Bantamweight (54Kg):

Lauren Mackie lost in the first round to  Anel Sakysh.

 

Featherweight (57Kg):

Sameenah Toussaint lost in the first round to  Aidana Zabynbekova.

 

Light Welterweight (63Kg):

Sacha Hickey defeats  Linda Desmond in the first round and books her place in the final with a win over  Polat Berfin.

 

Welterweight (66Kg):

Dione Burman loses to  Kabak Berfin in the first round (but still takes home a bronze medal). 

 

So, at the end of the competition,  will emerge with 4 medals but 60% of the squad lost in their first fight.

so, gb/england will pick up at least 5 bronze medals, i believe 4 of which are in olympic classes?

 

now i have not seen every GB fight, my question is this, 

 

is it unwise of me to hope that british boxing IS BACK! 

 

Things that make me question this is i know IBA countries are missing, how much does that diminish the standard of competition? also how much is this a result of the tournament being at home, are they getting the lucky scores etc?

 

the ones i can comment on is reid looks really good, and Stott is probably the most promising, he looks classy and has cracking power.

 

damar thomas looked good until he changed his gameplan for no reason and got schooled by the very experianced cuban. the other one i liked the look of was shittu.

 

what do people think?

I think the saying is 'One Swallow Doesn't Make a Summer'.  

 

There are certainly a lot of positives to take away from this week's results, but at the same time, there are factors that should prevent us getting too far ahead of ourselves. We know there were a lot of countries missing - some of them would only be making up the numbers but others would have been in the mix and as we get closer to LA, we'll see people moving around the weight divisions.

 

Competing as the home nations helps dilute the draws and gives us more opportunities to get to the later stages of the event. Also, we shouldn't underestimate the performance boost we get with home town advantage - it is one of the reasons GB should be doing everything it can to be staging qualifying events for LA '28.

 

It's early in the cycle, but we got 6 boxers qualified for Paris and based on the results from this week I'd say there's a good chance we will have a bigger boxing squad going to LA.

 

BTW, I've only got 3 medals in Olympic weights?
