Well quarter of Slovakia have some Hungarian roots so I do not see how is that surprising :p

Yep, you right it was the Slovak U17 team (not the seniors team) at the European Games in Baku, After that tournament she switched to :HUN

She does not have Hungarian roots:

From 2022:

"Do they just look or recognize you on the street?

Not yet after the Olympics, but many now after the final. It feels so good to be recognized and loved by Hungarian people. For a long time I had the feeling that a Slovak girl would take the place from the Hungarian one. Now I feel accepted. And that makes me incredibly happy!"

Well, that is even more admirable that she succeeded to make the national team of Hungary at such young age. This is clear sign of a talent.

I see, She learned the language in Szentes in 2 years. That alone is quite impressive because for us Hungarian is like arab or chinese language mix sometimes

Thanks for the link. I learned a lot about her now. :yes

You act as if Hungary bought a team! Three players were not born in Hungary. Two (Parkes and Rybanska) came to Hungary as juniors. Mathieu is the only one who arrived as a national team member! So they should compete for New Zealand, Slovakia or France? True! But you are wrong if you think the Hungarian team would be much less competitive! Or you don't know anything about the Hungarian water polo!

Following your logic: South Africa got the quota! Why are you happy for Canada?

I am well aware of the great history and tradition that Hungary has in this sport, which is why I am surprised that they see a need to naturalise foreign players! I've said the same thing about other countries in other sports (Spain in basketball with Lorenzo Brown for example), so at least I am consistent in my views. I am even annoyed when my own country does it (very rare but there are a few examples, which I won't bore you to explain the circumstances of, and no I'm not talking about the weightlifters from the Greek minority of Albania as that is a different topic).

Also I was supporting Hungary at the Tokyo Olympics since Greece didn't qualify, and I wanted Hungary to finally win an Olympic medal. I was very glad when they did!

The game we had against your girls here was very close which is why I said without those three non-Hungarian players, we would've won. In a game so close, the small differences are important, and I think without those players, we would've won. I still think we could've won anyways and I'm not saying it's an excuse for us losing, or the only reason why we lost, but it definitely plays a role ;)

And I'm happy for Canada because I think it is better for the sport. We saw how South Africa played in Tokyo and it was not pretty. They didn't "earn" any quota, they just got lucky that there are no other teams in Africa. It's not like Canada stole the quota from them, South Africa refused it.

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
