  • 2 weeks later...

Dutch media are reporting Peter Sagan will get the only Slovak ticket for the MTB in Rio...hckosice, any truth to that or will he, as planned, be the second Slovak in the MTB race?

It'd be quite horrible if he would indeed be the only one..

Is google translate messing with me or what? :yikes:

According to this article on Slovak Olympic Committee website, Sagan will compete ONLY in mountain bike. While their mountain bike athlete Martin Haring will compete on road.

That's at least what the danish sports news say.

Apparently he decided already in january not to start, as he thought there was too much climbing.
If that is so, I guess I've really underestimated the route.

So because of too much climbing on road course he chose MOUNTAIN biking instead? :d Wow, I don't get that.

Anyway, his chance for medal in mountain bike is zero. No way he can keep up with the likes of Schurter and Absalon.

Of course mountain biking isn't specifically climbing :p

And yeah, the course is seriously hard. This is not made for Sagan :d

Even with the name, the elevation isn't quite as much ;)

I don't think I would say zero (mainly because I haven't seen him on a Mountain bike course), but there's no doubt that it will be very tough.

I think in MTB Sagan has a higher medal chance in Rio than on the road. Which doesn't mean he has a high medal chance, only that I think it's higher than on the road :p

Yes, but climbing is a most significant part. :p

And race tactics is completely different than road cycling, with cyclists often going full power from the start... Definitely not something that Sagan is used to.

    • Totallympics Annual International Song Contest 2025      Welcome back to the final session of the Totallympics Annual International Song Contest 2025. Over the course of the next hour and a half we will crown the winner of this year's TISC Annual.   Right now, Ireland are in pole position to claim a sixth TISC title. They are holding a 28 point lead over 2nd placed France with 3rd placed Italy a further 6 points behind.   Ireland still have to vote and there is a maximum of 96 points on offer so theoretically, 26 nations still have a shot at winning from here.   The battle for the podium is also fascinating as 4th-placed Argentina sit just 6 points behind Italy, with Romania, Albania, Spain and Germany tightly bunched behind.   Or will another nation come from the depths to climb the heights of the podium?   Let's see how it all develops! Kicking off the voting in session 4 will be Turkey. Good evening Turkey, can we please have the results of the votes of the Turkish national jury?      Juries Voted: 26/34    1  Ireland   136  18  Guatemala   53  2  France   108  19  Netherlands   51  3  Italy   102  20  Tunisia   50  4  Argentina   96  21  Denmark   49  5  Romania   85  22  Poland   48  6  Albania   85  23  Sweden   46  7  Spain   84  24  Lithuania   45  8  Germany   84  25  Malta   43  9  Canada   74  26  Turkey   43  10  Mexico   73  27  Greece   37  11  Serbia   66  28  Slovenia   36  12  Kazakhstan   65  29  China   34  13  Portugal   65  30  Bulgaria   32  14  Great Britain   63  31  Indonesia   30  15  United States   62  32  Slovakia   28  16  Ukraine   57  33  Brazil   28  17  Israel   55  34  India   15
