Former Olympic champion Mark Tuitert with some very daring quotes in the Dutch TV studio: "The 1000m could be the best competition of the day!"

Wow, shocked.

No, just no :redcard:

That may be the roller speed skater in me talking. I enjoy a time trial as much as everyone, especially as an athlete, but they can be boring as fuck. 10,000m is nap time during the Olympics. It should absolutely be on the program, it’s just not that entertaining. The Mass Start’s problem is just a bad format. I like the Team Pursuit as well.

It's the non-speed skating fan in you talking. I find a snooker match incredibly boring, but that's just because I'm not a snooker fan in general, while fans love matches I find boring. People who can't appreciate some of the more epic battles in the 10k are the same kind of people who want the 50k race walk gone for example, they need 'fast and furious' instead of epic.

The best races I've seen are all at least 1500 meters, most are 5k's and 10k's. A 500m is just way too short to really get into it.

The difference is I don’t want those events gone. I found the 50km awesome to watch, albeit a little tedious. The problem with the 10km is the lack of skaters that are competitive. It’s not fun to watch the same people win by large margins. I love skating distance and sprints, but I just find the sprints and epic distance Mass Starts more entertaining than the boring ass time trials.

    • Was an interesting competition...as I was watching, I was thinking that the boulders seemed a bit simple for this caliber of athletes (and also a lack of more dynamic moves).  Glad my suspicions were confirmed when Oriane and Janja stated that they wished the boulders were harder at the end.  We'll see what this looks like if this happens again!   (Biggest complaint: SF1 and SF2 was immediately followed by the Small Final, so the loser of SF2 wasn't as rested.  They could have switched genders to the other SFs first.)
