Austria is definitely growing in luge. Right now they have much more depth in men's events than Germans. Hell, they are even building a second home track.

Not on the women's side which used to be more dominated by Germans. I still remember Neuner & Tagwerker. They were more of a threat than anyone Austria has right now. Hannah Prock is a total waste of time. Demchenko's daughter makes her look like a complete fraud. I can't decide which offspring is worse, Hannah Prock in luge or Nina Ortlieb in alpine skiing.

It sounded vaguely familiar, but not very :p

Any word on where Tim Singer went today? I mean, I was expecting four guys to jump on that luge sled when I heard John Morgan :hairpull:

It's bizzarre. Apparently his wife fell yesterday, Sebastian Bley jumped to help her, but it turns out she broke an ankle and was taken for a surgery today.

Oh, I didn’t know there was a new track in the works. Where?

John Morgan commentating today instead of Tim Singer. Obviously we know him from skeleton and bobsled, but personally I didn't know he made his commentating debut at the 1981 world championships....at the race where his brother - driving one of the American sleds - broke his neck and died in a crash :yikes:

Holy shit! We’re lucky 5 athletes didn’t end up dead per race back then. That has to be some of the worst track construction I’ve ever seen :yikes:

Not sure actually. Somewhere in Tirol I believe.

But in any case, it's supposed to be short (800 m) and luge-only.

800m is hella short. It definitely won’t be a World Cup track. Seems like a waste of funds.

Bludenz in the Vorarlberg. Track will be 725m and used by juniors. It's hardly a waste of funds IMO. They still have Igls for the seniors.

Igls - arguably the easiest track in the world to drive.

Without Igls luge & bobsleigh would never become an Olympic sport tho

Sometimes simplicity is the reason for success.

Life and bobsled were well established Olympics sports before then. Igls is responsible for the modern era though, and it is one of the most iconic tracks in the world. It’s just not hardest, and the start is pretty much all that matters.

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
