Strange, generally that is the exact reason why there is a B final. In fact, the Dutch women won Olympic bronze because they won the B final (in a WR) last year and got promoted after DQ's in the A final.

What a weird sport it is anyway, Suzanne Schulting pretty much pushed out a Chinese skater in the last lap of the women's relay semis.........and China got DQ'd for exactly what Schulting actually did

the rule is different from time to time...at the Olympics and at the world champs, medals are awarded through the B final (if needed), meanwhile at the world cup events the B final exists only to give WC points away, but no medal is awarded outside the A final (also because in the relays, the A final and the prize ceremony are held way before the B finals, which are placed at the end of the TV session)...

Not in the mixed. And even so, so what? It's a weird thing to have this difference.
