Pakistan incidentally 1-0-4

:AFG does not compete anymore.

Wouldn't India be considered a bigger fail? 28 medals all time for the second most populous nation is pretty embarrassing imo.

:AFG participated in the last edition.

Maybe if you say second most populous country. But being the second most populous country thrust into poverty with no basic life amenities is more important. Sports doesn't form a priority when putting food to the tables and growing a depleted nation is considered. Add to that a  nation which is democratic in nature excluding 5-6 yrs having 30 or more individual power centers known as stated. Also the fact that India doesn't allow dual citizenship, hence not buying any athletes from outside or not allowing Indian origin athletes to compete without citizenship.

Comparing India and Pakistan is a joke. If you have to compare them you have to do it in Asian perspective. India has always been improving in most of the sports in contrast Pakistan is facing major problems financially.

Sports performance is directly proportional to economic performance. Pakistan's per capita GDP (PPP) was better than India's from independence till early 2000s when India surged ahead. This reflected at the sports performance as well comparatively. Pakistan were world beaters in cricket, squash and hockey. Now the state of Pakistani sports is dismal and abject

Nowhere the trend can be clearly seen in India vs Pakistan H2H ODI wins where the table is given below

Decade India Pakistan No Result
1978-1980 1 2 0
1981-1990 9 20 2
1991-2000 19 30 2
2001-2010 17 17
2011-2019 9 4
Overall 55 73 4

In fact, in the last 14 ODI matches India has won 10 of those

Looks like :MDV can finally win a medal in table tennis.

The medal table will look much even this time around. :BHU can win 5-6 golds in Taekwondo.

Suprised to see Kabaddi left out.

I haven’t seen a single article besides this, that indicates these games will actually take place. No official website, no webcast info, no team announcements, nothing.

The official website.

BTW why Afghanistan is not a part of it?

May have something to do with the Taliban controlling about 60-75% of the country currently. Not worth the risk. I think the Afghan government will fall within the next 2 years. Tokyo 2020 could very well be the last time we see Afghan women for awhile. Of course this is all assuming the Taliban advances as quickly as they have been, and that the ANA continues to weaken and retreat.

That website qualifies as “something is better than nothing” :p

My guess, players are largely based outside the country, or based in the few big cities the government still controls.

    • Netanyahu is bad but unfortunately Hamas helps him maintain power. Every attack they make is a reinforcement of Netanyahu's rhetoric about the country's security, etc. In the fall of 2023, Netanyahu was already losing support and then suddenly a big Hamas attack on a festival near the Gaza Strip. Coincidence? It wouldn`t surprise me at all if Netanyahu knew about the plan for this attack but did nothing so that he would then have the tools to maintain his power. I also remember Ariel Sharon - he was probably even more radical than Netanyahu but he had a brain hemorrhage and fell into a coma.

Apart from he waś there as president of Ukraine and speaking in the Knesset? Nothing. In the power circles in Moscow there were/are many people of Jewish origin and what about that? A large part of the power apparatus of the USSR was based on Jews, especially in the years shortly after WWII.   Instead of constantly writing about Jews, would be better to tell me which country Algeria has better diplomatic relations with: Tunisia or Egypt?
