Great tournament for Michelle Li :CAN at the BWF Super 500 Thailand Open beating the likes of Sindhu :IND (Two-time Olympic medalist in 2016/2020, and current WR13) and Zhiyi :CHN (2022 Asian Champion, and current WR7)

Meanwhile, the BWF Super 750 Singapore Open :SGP has started, no Axelsen :DEN unfortunately   But a great straight games win for Li, over Gilmore :SCO to start off her tournament (21-11, 21-15), continuing right where she left off. Tough task in Yamaguchi :JPN up next, not really expecting much.

Such a shame that Kunlavut had to retired in his semifinals match against Ginting as he experienced a shoulder injury during the match. But it was not totally unexpected considering his play style and the fact that he has been playing four straight week of world class tournaments since the Sudirman Cup.

What to look out for in this coming week's Indonesia Open is the return of Viktor Axelsen and what kind of form he will be at after a brief layoff since the end of the Sudirman Cup due to a leg injury.

Another thing I will look out for is the response of the world's # 1 Chinese mixed doubles pair of Zheng and Huang after getting knocked out in the QF at Singapore. Can they rebound and win the title in Indonesia or are they going to miss out on another championship. If the latter happens, we might be seeing a more open/competitive field in the mixed doubles event that it ever has been for quite a while. For so long, Zheng/Huang have been unstoppable until their unexpected loss at the Tokyo Olympics. They seem to be back at their best earlier this year before suffering some key loses at the Asian Championships and this week.

BWF 1000 Indonesia Open started this week. Michelle Li :CAN started off her campaign against Kim Ga Eun :KOR today, but unfortunately ended up losing in three sets (24-22, 17-21, 21-23). This was a match of comebacks, as Ga Eun was 14-9 up in Set 1 (Li won 24-22), Li was 13-9 up in Set 2 (Ga Eun won 21-17), but most shockingly, Li was 18-9 up in Set 3 and still managed to lose the match (Ga Eun won 23-21) :hairpull: :wall:

For India we had a bit of a suprise in MS with 4 players making the round of 16 , i cannot remember when we have seen that before in a BWF 1000 event ..... Rajawat had the luck of the draw when kunlavut was a no show .... But the rest were  legitimate wins .....

Sen overcoming  the 8th seeded Lee Jia was a good victory ....  Kidambi and prannoy were more expected....

PV Sindhu overcame Tunjung which was good as she has lost to her a couple of times this year

Satchi win in men doubles was expected .....

But no one in XD or WD in round of 16 .....

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
