I turned on my TV right at the start of the :CUB - :ITA tiebreaker. Watched my first baseball since my Tokyo 2020 medal matches replays. and it was fun, I liked it, obviously not so entertaining and fun as hockey (the right one I mean obviously) but still fun. :d Pretty sure I will watch more during this tourney. Thanks to Czech TV, they broadcast 2 games per day, probably for the first time ever :yes

dreams sometimes come true! :cheer:

wonderful start of the tournament for the Blue Team, with the great Mike Piazza managing to perfection and taking some brave and unexpected decisions about our pitching staff that helped to keep the Cuban hitters at bay for almost the entire match.

on offense, still too many aggressive swings early in the count...we shouldn't have left Elias to pitch that long, wasting so many at bats.

on the other hand, the great Iginio Velez is still turning over in his grave on how the Caribbean team played and also on how the game was managed by their coaches.

they blew their pitchers out when they were still trailing/the game was still tied and called on the mound the same Garcia that yesterday blew their game vs :NED in the 10th.

don't they really have anybody better than him?

and if the answer is "yes", why exposing him to the pressure of late innings once again instead of lettimng him pitch earlier, when any mistake wouldn't be so decisive on paper?

not to mention the absolute disaster of their supposed MLB superstars (Moncada and Robert) with their bats in both yesterday and today's matches.

moreover, why leaving a man like Gracial on the bench, using him just as a pich hitter when the game was already dead and gone?

meh...

however, the hype is getting higher and higher...can't wait for tomorrow's clash vs the Home team :TPE

:CZE The Czech team will make their long awaited WBC debut in just over 5 hours. They are the very definition of an underdog true. For those who don't know, the team is made up entirely of homegrown players (except for 2) and most of these guys only play baseball part time. They work their day jobs on weekdays and then play baseball on the weekends. And despite this they still beat a strong Spanish team composed of Dominican and Venezuelan rejects to qualify for this tournament.

That game against China tonight will be huge for them as it could determine the last place finisher which is the team that will have to go through qualification again for the next tournament. Before yesterday, I would have said the Czechs were better but after China's performance against Japan, I'm not so sure now.

Elsewhere, the biggest rivalry in baseball rewrites another chapter as Japan and Korea face off again. This will be their first WBC matchup since the 2009 championship game and Korea likely needs to win this in order to keep their tournament hopes alive.

Meanwhile, in Pool A, Panama and Taiwan need to win today if they want to keep their tournament alive. Italy looks to go to 2-0 and put themselves in a great position.

    • Looks like it was a 'joke' by some online magazine? I can't imagine the actual Metallica was involved in it, that would suck so bad. Worst April Fool's joke I've seen.
    • Playa del Carmen Elite16   Women’s Tournament Gold-  Carol Solberg/Rebecca Cavalcanti Silver-  Terese Cannon/Megan Kraft Bronze-  Kristen Nuss/Taryn Brasher   Shoutout to my new favourite pairing of Hüberli/Kernen, who have backed up their silver at the Yucatán Challenge by recording a quarterfinal finish here by defeating Olympic Champions  Duda/Ana Patricia in straight sets in the round of 12 (to be fair, they looked off all event long, but they also beat Nuss/Brasher). This team definitely has what it takes to be a top 5 team and consistently contending for medals. First time watching Kernen play, all I can say is how is she that good at only 19? She’s gonna be a star in the future.    Men’s Tournament Gold-  Noslen Diaz/Jorge Alayo  Silver-  Tomas Capogrosso/Nicolas Capogrosso  Bronze-  Chaim Schalk/James Shaw    Schalk/Shaw defeated Olympic champions  Ahman/Hellvig in the quarterfinals   Full Results

    • So I was watching a replay of China-Germany in between Canada’s game against Sweden and this one against Italy and… it seems like China cheated during it which could’ve been critical in them winning the match?    During the 1st end, Xu with his last rock had an easy hit for the single against three German stones. One of the sweepers for China (I can’t tell which one, this team is quite new to me) “accidentally” kicked their own stone, which redirected one of their own stones into the rings, and Germany only got the steal of 2. HIS FUCKING FOOT IS TOUCHING THE ROCK   Now after, Team Xu was claiming that the stone was picked (it was not) and Muskatewitz was arguing that it couldn’t possibly have been picked. China wouldn’t admit it, and they ended up winning the game 10-9. BOO.    Hope these cheaters don’t qualify for the Olympics.
    • Edin usually has mediocre seasons though (that being said this has been worse than usual), then really starts to show up for Worlds. He’s only won 4 GSOC events in his career.     They’re at a 4-2 record at the moment, so seems to be the case again. Plus, they played really well in their loss to Canada.
    • I'm in tears, finally I have access after months. For some reason I can only enter the site from my phone. Surely it must be a problem with my home internet connection.
    • With a week to go till the deadline for the world invitational, the rosters look beefy for the discus on both sides.24 entries for the men[19 accepted in so far] and 25 for the women[18 accepted so far] For the men so far there are three 70 meter throwers[i count Denny as that since it's just 4 centimeters off his pb]10 from mid 66 to low 69,three of 65 and over, four from almost 64 to almost 65.On the women's side the 18 accepted throwers all have a pb of over 60 meters.11 of them have  pbs over 64 plus.of the ones still not there besides Valerie and Yaime who have been marketed so i can only assume they will join, such names as  Sandra Elkasevic,Bin Feng, and jordine van klinken aren't signed up yet, jordine's probably the most likely of them to join in tough feng would be a cool surprise,i somehow don't see Sandra doing this, but it would be awesome if she did.Stahl and ceh aren't in yet on the men's side, ceh has been marketed while stahl hasn't been mentioned at all,[pretty sure stahl will not be there],Lukas[last name is too wild for me to even try] and lawrence okoye aren't there yet either but i'm betting both will be joining in.
