Marian Hossa is among the immortals of the Chicago Blackhawks :champion:

His No. 81 jersey, the only Blackhawks player in history to wear it, was hung on  the United Center on Sunday. The ceremony took place before Sunday´s NHL game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Slovak hockey legend won the Stanley Cup 3 times with Chicago, during his NHL career Hossa accumulated 525 goals and 609 assists for 1,134 points in 1,309 regular-season games over his 19-year NHL career. He was the 44th player in NHL history to score 500 goals, and the 80th player to score 1,000 points. He was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020.

Played for :SVK at 4 Winter Olympic Games and 8 World Champiionships and 2 World Cups (including the silver medal winning one for Team Europe he led basically alongside Gáborík)

  • 3 weeks later...

NHL’s attempt to promote transgender hockey produces predictably unhappy results.

A female-to-male transgender hockey player was left concussed after being flung to the floor by a much larger male-to-female trans opponent during a controversial NHL-backed tournament.

Danny Maki was knocked down and left concussed following what appeared to be an accidental rough hit at the Team Trans Ice Hockey draft in Middleton, Wisconsin, late last month

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
