Considering the points difference doesn’t matter, and we’re much better than South Korea, not sure why Winzer wouldn’t use this opportunity to bring in some of the reserves/bench players and give Van Ryk/Gray some rest. Their attack isn’t as efficient as it was during week 1, and I’m starting to think they’re getting a bit tired. Maybe if the sets are close then bring them back in but otherwise…

Decent win, South Korea went on a bit of a run (8-3) near the end, which isn’t ideal but Canada closed it out with a 5-1 run of their own.

We don't want to be losing winnable sets.

It likely wouldn't have mattered against South Korea, but it might if the Netherlands defeat the United States and Serbia while we lose to Italy and Japan.

Even if we rest KVR and Gray for the majority of the set, we should still be in it, and arguably I’d even say slightly ahead. South Korea is that horrible lmao. That’s why you bring them in ONLY if it’s necessary.

Have you done an analysis on what gap (in points) is needed to guarantee a quota?

Right okay, with one week left here’s where things stand.

Netherlands is 4th unqualified with 290.95 points, ahead of Canada with 288.74 points. So a 2.21 point gap.

Canada plays Italy on June 11, Japan on June 13, Netherlands on June 14, and France on June 15.

Netherlands play a youth Serbia lineup on June 12, United States on June 13, Canada on June 14, and South Korea on June 16.

Basically come down to the head to head match, but if Netherlands defeats Serbia, we’ll probably need to take sets off of Italy and Japan (in addition to of course beating Netherlands). For Canada to have a chance, they’ll essentially need to be within 1.5-2 points of Netherlands entering their last match. A sweep of France would probably award around 3.5 points, while a sweep over South Korea would probably award 1.5 points. These are just calculations though, as the amount of points you get changes by match.

Did Canada play a youth Serbian team as well?

Sort of, the only player who will probably make the Serbian Olympic roster is Uzelac, but a lot of the players that played against Canada won’t be playing in week 3. Basically what I’m saying is that it’ll be an even worse roster. Their head coach Guidetti won’t be present as well, he’s going back to Serbia in preparation for the Olympics.

Didn’t watch the full match until now. Winzer played everyone yesterday. Van Ryk and Gray were way more efficient with their attacking, despite only scoring 13 each. Gray had a slightly better game, even if Van Ryk was more dangerous from the service line she did get roofed a couple of times during the 3rd set. That has happened a lot this week. MVP of the match for me would have to be O’Reilly though, she served 5 (YES 5!) aces throughout the match, set the ball really well (nice rebound after last game, though usually she’s this good), and had 2 setter dump kills.

White, Johnson, Murmann, Van Buskirk, Maglio were the other highlights (in that order)

So the Dutch are playing a much easier Serbian team then we did

Canada defeat United States 3-1 in match 6 of Men’s VNL, to improve to 4-3!

United States didn’t play Defalco, but they’re still a good team without him.

Stephen Maar was easily the player of the match, but Lui made some good digs as well.
