Both of the boxers are very young and both debuted at the senior level in these championships, quite unexpected final pair.

Toborek wasn't even supposed to be here. Martyna Jancelewicz who also won the Junior European Champs in March was the designated -81 kg fighter but got injured and Toborek replaced her at the last minute. Toborek won the junior title in the +81 kg class.

India has 2 Bronze and a women in finals. Though not great result but a satisfying tournament. Would be happy with the Yellow metal for Nikhat...

Interesting tournament. Not many Olympic medalists returning. Some injured. Some retired. Some have gone "pro". Good see all 4 continents (as per boxing qualifiers) with finalists; 11 for Europe, 6 for the Americas, 4 for Asia pacific and 3 for Africa

 

2 for  and  in the finals is impressive. 5 for the hosts

 

There are 4 former World Champions in the finals;  Yu-ting (2018, different weight)  Bylon (2014 - different weight),  Ferreira from 2019 (silver in Tokyo) and the only Tokyo Champion  Surzmeneli

 

Not to denigrate any World Championships medals won but this tournament is more of a development tournament than previous Worlds with several very young (on boxing terms) medalists.

Yea 1 of the Canadians (Charlie Cavanagh) was only a bronze medalist at the Continental championships, so to win a Silver at the Worlds just two months later, doesn't seem to add up.

Double gold for Ireland

 

Lisa O’Rourke started this tournament when she was 19. She hasn’t even won an Irish senior title yet but she’s a world champion
