The 90s in our sport.

Slovakia became an independent country after the split of Czechoslovakia in 1993, meaning also that Slovak athletes competed for the first time ever under slovakian flag at the olympics. First ever entry was in Lillehammer 1994 Winter Olympic Games with two briliants 6th places in biathlon and thanks to our hockey team.

 

The first ever slovak olympic medal came 2 years later in Atlanta in our very first summer olympics appearance, our rifle shooter Jozef Gonci will be inscribed in our history as the man who won the first ever medal for Slovakia at olympic Games, in Rifle 3 positions.

We also won our first gold medal in Atlanta thanks to the biggest athlete of our history. Michal Martikán he had only 16 when he won his first major gold

 

 

Who guessed then that this guy will enter to the sport world history winning untill now 43 medals from OG, World Championships and European Championships, and having an unbelievable streak of winning medal from major event (OG, WCh, ECh) 22 years in a row..

he is also the only canoeist in all history to win 5 medals in 1 event in OG history and this at 5 Games in a row..

 the 2000s

Back to sport, yeah the amazing years of our Hockey 2000 silver, 2002 World Champions, 2003 bronze, 2004 4th.

the first part of the 2000s was the best era on our most popular sport,

from 2002 to 2003 Slovakia was 1st ranked world hockey nation in the world IIHF Ranking.

oh dear..where those times gone...

but well, return back. in fact it´s hard to find anything else than Hockey and canoe slalom in this period. Slovakia won 6 gold medals at Olympics in the 2000s and all of them in canoe slalom. also our medals in hockey were presented here so many times

And here we are in the present, In this amazing contests Slovakia already presented some our artists like Celeste Buckingham, Peter Aristone, No Name or Kristína..

And we are in the present, we arrived to the end of the Closing Ceremony and to the unevitable end of the Totallympics International Annual Song Contest 2016.

 

but before to say good-bye here of our last huge sport success.

There no questions about the top and most known Slovak athlete of the current times.

Peter Sagan is a real huge world star, 4 times winner of the Green Jersey in a row at Tour de France in only 4 his appearances is already a memorable success, but his biggest moment came last September...

Ladies and Gentlemens it was a true honor for us to hosted this amazing competition, I really hope you enjoyed the entire stay in Slovakia.

 

Already looking forward to meet you once again around fantastic music from all over the world in the next competition.
