Finally one better video from yesterdays match, One can really appreciate the Samuel Buček and Róbert Lantoši actions, they both were really great yesterday, will be interesting to see if they will make the team for the world champs

this 1st Buček and 4th Lantoši goals are really nice, but the 5th goal was a real team beauty

  • 3 weeks later...

Slovak Extraliga Regular season is over. both Hungarian clubs made it to the play-offs. congrats MAC and Miskolc, both are even paired in 1st round so one of them is already assured to play the real play-ofs quarterfinals.

After a good start HC Košice unfortunately experienced a quite poor pointless streak during the last part of the season, resulting in only 4th place and probably the worst possible opponent for my club, HK Poprad, the rivality between both teams is really big and matches are strongly followed (aka east slovakian derby), hopefully we will be able to beat our nemesis this time.

Žilina finished last and will play the best of 7 series play-out against the winner of second division (which is contested right now in a best of 7 series between Michalovce and Martin)

PS apparently there strong rumors that this was probably the last season our U20 National Team was part of the Extraliga, it looks like the project U20 Orange will be removed (which is pretty understandable IMO, since only a couple of players from this project actually made it for example this year to the U20 Wch final roster)

Spartak Moscow (mainly thanks to the goalie Július Hudáček) won both first matches in St. Petersburg against SKA in the KHL Play-Offs opening round :yikes:

and this is also the only surprising situation so far (I wouldn't call exactly "surprising" the 2-0 lead of Dynamo Moscow against Jokerit, despite being the Finns seeded better than the Russians)...

another thing to be noticed is that only 1 series out of 8 (Metallurg Magnitogorsk vs Salavat Yulaev Ufa) is tied 1-1 after 2 games in this first round of the KHL playoffs...and this is not so good for us, neutral audience...:nopompom:

The feeling when you score your first seasons hattrick but your team lost 3:10   The clearly actually biggest slovak prospect Maxim Čajkovič marked his first hattrick in the colours of St. John during the defeat of his team with Cape Breton in juniors QMJHL

After the Slovak Extraliga and the KHL, another top-tier European league has just finished its regular season and it's on the runway to start its playoffs campaign: it's the German DEL...

Adler Mannheim ended up on top after the 52-game schedule with 116 points, 7 ahead of the reigning champions, Red Bull Munich.

the top 6 (the teams already qualified to the quarterfinals) is completed by Augsburger Panther, Kölner Haie, ERC Ingolstadt and Düsseldorfer EG.

the teams ranked 7th to 10th are instead qualified for the playoffs preliminary round (starting tonight)...and they are: Pinguins Bremerhaven (7th), Straubing Tigers (8th), last year's runner up Eisbären Berlin (9th) and Thomas Sabo ice Tigers Nürnberg.

therefore, the 1st round match-ups (best-of-3 series) are: Bremerhaven vs Nürnberg and Straubing vs Berlin...and it all starts tonight @ 7.15 CET...

    • Some notable  retirements:   Elisavet Pesiridou (athletics - 100m hurdles) - She announced her retirement on her 34th birthday. She competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. She narrowly missed Paris 2024 despite being in good form, the rest of he field seemed to get stronger and her ranking was a bit lower even though she was quite consistent. She struggled with injuries in 2025.   Fani Tzeli (taekwondo) - She was 7th in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Still, she is only 24 yo and seemed to be rising up again after winning bronze at the European Championships so it is a bit surprising.   Aikaterini Divari (sailing) - She competed in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Only 25 yo.   AJ Ginnis (alpine skiing) - Despite winning a silver at the World Championships he never got to compete at the Winter Olympics as he was always unfortunately injured. A shame as he is by far our best winter athlete ever. Only 31 yo, and I have a feeling he might come back in 2030 based on his last interview...

    • Let's see how hard Brazil will try not to qualify again.
    • Well.  Having gotten it a bit at a distance a few comments about my experiences   Travel: Very happy. Flying to and from was a breeze (the plane home slighty delayed). The same can be said about getting around in Milano. Getting around outside was of course slightly harder, especially with some delays back from Antholx (but i guess that's not a big surprise when a lot of people leave a place in the mountains)   Atmosphere: Very happy around the venues, but it's also very clear that it's smaller than the Summer games. People weren't following the events wherever you went. Alcohol certainly made a difference between Paris and now. Sadly did experience a few who should certainly have stopped a couple of beers earlier.    The logistics at the venues:  Very easy to see that Santagiulia is new and absolutely not a perfect venue. Seems like some kinks were fixed when I got there, but there's still stuff to work out. The food at the Milano venues were meh and there were quite some lines. Tesero was a chaos when it came to getting food, but the quality was slightly better at the skiing venues.
