how come everybody got points.did everybody bet on slovenia?

or is it this "stupid" rule to get points for predicting wrong winner?

call eurojackpot if they give money for predicting wrong numbers?

Slovenia was the (small) favourite, so it wouldn't be that weird if people went for Slovenia to win :p

We will bring this discussion very soon, about scoring systems in many sports. The only contests with the most fair scoring systems in my opinion are individual one and tennis. Maybe football too (but my understanding of importance of the goal scoring in football is irrelevant so someone who's more into it could say otherwise).

I definitely think there shouldn't be points for picking the losing team. Also, I would like to ditch bonus points in volleyball....

So, hopefully, most of the users will take part in the discussion so we can set up the rules few weeks before 2018 starts :)

It's somewhat inadequate right now, since you only get 10 points for correct winner and up to 20 for points difference. It should be 20+20.

Right now it's possible that you get 18 for predicting wrong winner, while at the same time it's possible that you get 10 for predicting right winner. With 20+20 predicting right winner will give you more points in every scenario.

Player A predicts Team B to beat Team C by 15 points difference. However, Team C actually ends up beating Team B by 15 points. I can't see any logical reason why someone should even get any point at all for that prediction, because he's 30 points off!

It shouldn't be "Well you got the difference right, here's some good points!", it should be "You were entirely wrong, here's no points!".

And if Team B ends up beating Team C by 1 point, Player A should still definitely get points (way more than for predicting the right difference), because in the end predicting the winners is the most important thing.

But, as Wanderer said, this discussion will soon start for next year, so by then these posts could be moved :p

You'll get 0 points for 30 points wrong difference. :p To get any points when predicting the wrong winner you have to be within 19 points.

So change 15 points in my example to 9 points :p

Still makes no sense to get points for a difference of 9, when you predicting the losing team to win by 9. You're 18 points off and got the wrong winner, no reason to get any points for that.

Why not? + or - 9, it was a relatively close game! Besides, you only get 2 points for that. :p The closer you are the more points you get, and it makes more sense that being off by 18 is better than being off by 30 and thus gets some consolation prize. :d

With 20+20 there should be enough importance in choosing the winning side, and yet rewarding your skill to predict how close the game will be.

Being off by 30 points is better than being off by 50 points, that doesn't mean you should get some consolation prize for 30 points off :p

Nah, 30 points is too much.. Line has to be somewhere, and 20 points covers +-10, what should qualify as a close game.
