  1. Maybe you can help me hear because I really thought a certain group I saw last year was Dutch. Here’s the story. I was camping outside the Yosemite Portal (entrance). At our campground there are all types of tourists. There are a lot of French, Belgian, Dutch, German, and British tourists in the California mountains for some reason. Anyways, they are a few spots a campground reserved for big groups. So when I got back from fishing and took a walk around (because that is the best way to enjoy the magical California summer evenings) I saw this strange group. They looked Amish but spoke either German, French, Dutch, or some other Western European language. Their, what I believe to be, male escorts looked more Eastern European (or actually like the belonged to the mafia) and were always smoking and keeping a close eye on the girls. They did not like that I was curious (especially since one the girls was my age, and looked very nice). I’ve been trying to figure out what the hell I witnessed, but I haven’t been able to come up with a certain group yet. These are the people I was talking about wearing face coverings (though they were more like bonnets if that makes sense). This group almost looked Puritan to me.
  2. @intoronto Lima 2019 is saying that the lack of ticket sales is because people prefer to buy them in person at the venue the day of competition. It makes sense, first major event like this in your country. Internet is still new a lot of people in a developing nation. Plus, people may just didn’t want to invest in something’s before they figured out what it was.
  3. I believe you may be referring to baklava when you talk about the English word for the ski masks. I mean European countries are only passing these laws to ban burqas. If Christians wore full face coverings this would have never come about. Aren’t there some super religious Dutch groups that have women wear head coverings? I just can’t wait for Islamic countries to start banning Christian things because this is definitely the route we should take as a planet towards globalization.
  4. Olympic quotas: Team - Duet -
  5. Enjoyable routine from the US. Definitely third, but that was fun.
  6. Wonderful routine from Mexico. I liked it much more than Canada’s, but I do think Canada executed better and had a bit more technicality. That routine will be scored 86-88, but I’d give it a 89 myself.
  7. I didn’t like that performance from Canada as much as their duet this morning. They will still win the gold medal and quota. They will be thing they do better than anyone (maybe even the top 5 in the world) is their throws. They send those girls to the moon.
  8. Peru will be 6th tonight. Technically there were better than both Cuba and Guatemala, but their execution wasn’t perfect. At least the Peruvian crowd seems to have liked the performance.
  9. The Gym arena has been filled too. I think it just depends on the sport.
  10. Again with Colombia, I didn’t see any glaring errors, but the technicality and pacing wasn’t there. Still a good performance. I bet they beat Brazil, but it should be close.
  11. I see the judges are using an IPad Pro 11 inch. Good choice, not that I’m biased or typing this response on one...
  12. Good routine from Brazil. No major mistakes, but I don’t know if it was a technical as the top 3. Still a good showing. Should score 82-84.
  13. got underscored in my opinion. They should have at least gotten at 69. if not higher.
  14. Yes, there were a few execution and synchronization errors, but that performance was miles ahead of Guatemala. Cuba just lacks the cadence and higher skill level of the top nations.
  15. Honestly deserved like a 56. in my opinion.
  16. Very poor performance from Guatemala. I love seeing new nations in sports at the Pan American Games, but that was painful. However, they performed to the same song that I’ve told people would work for artistic swimming, so I feel very vindicated
  17. Interesting music choice from Guatemala. They went with a Spanish version of “My Jolly Sailor Bold”
  18. I like the theme song. I think it’s nice
  19. Not super impressed with the mobile phone game. The art is good, and using the games theme music is nice, but the app glitches quite often and there just are things I want to do that I can’t. Rio’s was cool though
  20. 10 year old Brazilian boy is making some waves in the skate Vert competition. He’s on the verge of making the final. Should he medal he’d be the youngest X Games medalist ever, but there are quite a few elite athletes here that could challenge him for that title as they’re younger.
  21. This guy wrote a really nice article about the Olympic pictograms for Tokyo 2020. He’s a design student, and does a great job of explaining the purpose of pictograms and design choices. Fun little read: https://blog.prototypr.io/the-stories-beneath-the-5-best-tokyo-olympic-pictograms-93f6ebf54061?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app
  22. For some reason I’ve got a winter sports kick this week, so I’ve been looking forward into these games again. Ice Hockey qualification is kind of known now. The way it works is that gets a team in both genders. Then the top 10 teams in the youth world ranking get to choose whether they send a boys team or a girls team. Both tournaments will feature 6 teams. If the top 5 in the world ranking all choose to send a boys team, then the other countries can only send a girls team (should they choose to participate). At the end of the qualification period, the rankings were as the following: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Thrown out (host country) (already given quotas) 8. 9. 10. 11. First in line for reallocation should any of the top 10 not choose to send a team: 12. 13. 14. 15.
  23. And if he’s confident enough to post something like that on social media, the odds are he’s not the only one doing it...
  24. I’d have to disagree too. I didn’t see any technical mistakes and I thought their artistic impression of the song was great. This does show one of the flaws of the sport though. Gainlu can dislike the rountine while I like it. That’s a big problem for a sport where artistic impression is main factor separating the best teams in the world. I do agree that Ukraine, Russia, Japan, and Spain are better, but I think Canada could at the very least beat China with that routine.
