  1. Yeah, the only thing those things actually do is endanger species because people still believe it actually has significant medicinal value I'm not sure of course how serious people there take for example this nonsense about bear bile, hopefully most people don't..
  2. Protest as always. There are not many countries out of where one reads more about protests, demonstrations, strikes and so on than Brazil and France (on an always-existing kind of level, not for example Hong Kong in the recent months or so)
  3. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/2020/03/chinese-government-promotes-bear-bile-as-coronavirus-covid19-treatment/ Oh come the fuck on. Next thing you know they're promoting rhino horns as COVID-19 treatment or something as well, will they never learn?
  4. Making Bolsonaro significantly more dangerous and, unlike Trump, giving him a feel of someone who could realistically become an actual dictator.
  5. Apparently thousands of Brazilians have gone onto the streets today in support of Bolsonaro and his mediocre precautions, even going so far as to call for 'AI-5', one of the decrees of the military dictatorship which gave the president pretty much God-like power Yeah, people bitch about Trump, but I would so very much prefer to have Trump as my president than Bolsonaro. Trump is nothing compared to him.
  6. They followed what most geographical experts say, I'm assuming, which is putting a majority of Russia in Asia and about a quarter in Europe.
  7. For the drink question, wtf? On TV a shockingly high percentage of people (it's three 'celebrities' and 300 students) thought it was tequilla, some others went for C as well (probably the same people who pronounce the Dutch word for medal totally wrong), but it is of course A I knew the second one simply because I've heard of the term 'djinn' and because I sort of know (or at least have a picture of) what a fakir is, definitely a person, and I know a mufti is some Islamic whatever (authority/scholar/person/fill in the blank) but not an invisible creature or something Europe, Africa, Asia is the correct answer. Carbon was easy I thought and I answered ant because I had no idea about both ant or lobster (I knew it wasn't spider)
  8. Same quiz was on TV again, some of the 50 questions for those interested 1) What is the right way to spell the name of this drink? A. Tequila B. Tequilla C. Tequilia 2) What is the name of a supernatural, invisible being, which according to some Islamic scholars can take possession of people? A. Djinn B. Fakir C. Mufti 3) Sort these three continents in order, starting with the smallest and ending with the biggest: Asia Europe Africa 4) What does a diamond consist of? A. Quartz B. Carbon C. Sand 5) Which animal has at least 10 legs? A. Lobster B. Ant C. Spider
  9. Istiklol managed to make it 2-2 in the 95th minute from a penalty Sadly I didn't pay attention and didn't see the reason for the penalty, but they got a point out of this scare. Obviously Manuchekhr Dzhalilov, Tajikistan's all-time top goalscorer, scored both goals.
  10. And then deleted his social media accounts.
  11. We have a few people with dual citizenship in parliament, and for years there's people 'fighting' against allowing it (sort of low-key, it's never the biggest priority). Not surprisingly most discussions are around politicians with Moroccan and especially Turkish nationalities. We've got a political party, called DENK, which has a few seats in parliament and is basically seen by most people (except themselves, officially) as the political part of 'Erdogan's long arm in the Netherlands' - which is sort of symbolism for Turkish people and institutions in the Netherlands, but promoting/wanting/liking Erdogan's authoritarian views. In short: it's allowed for politicians, but not everyone is happy with it due to it at the very least making it seem like there's doubtful loyalties.
  12. Tajik powerhouse Istiqlol against Khatlon, who had a surprise win against FK Khujand last week and who took a surprise 1-2 lead right before halftime just now
  13. Easter may be gone, I see there's still a whole bag of chocolate easter eggs here, so, yeah, happy Easter again
  14. That is still freakishly fast Well over ten minutes behind the WR, but damn, walking 10k in less than 5:00/km
  15. I wonder if they'd accept someone posting a 42 minute time or so for the 10km walk (not knowing it could be a race walker) Sub-50 though, that is impressive!
  16. Great, luckily we've got two of those. Yes, same thing with Kimmann, but Justin is not as good as Merel relatively speaking
  17. Just introduce life bans for caught cheaters and this whole thing is no issue anymore
  18. Niek Kimmann and Laura Smulders for the Dutch BMX sweep
  19. Not sure for gymnastics, but is the rule worded sort of the same as in football? (i.e. 'you have to be born after date X') If so, that's rather simple: postponing an event doesn't mean you're suddenly born on a different date and so that rule simply still counts. Someone who is banned until September 2020 is banned until September 2020, if an event - be it some local tournament or the Olympics - is held after September 2020, said someone is then eligible and that is perfectly legal and fine (much as I'd like cheaters to be out for longer, but that's besides the point).
  20. Out of curiousity I went and checked the website of Dutch authorities and apparently this is the case for many countries In the Netherlands the 'basic rule' apparently is that you lose your current nationality if you apply for the Dutch nationality, with exceptions for countries that don't allow someone to give up their nationality (which I think is a bit of a weird thing, not allowing someone to give up a nationality).
  21. Plus there's a difference between banning someone from date X to date Y, in which case any event that's after date Y - no matter why it is after that date - is fair game for said someone to compete in, and banning someone from specific competitions, in which case the date doesn't matter. I wonder if anyone ever really thought athletes who would be banned until, let's say, September 2020 would NOT be allowed to compete in Tokyo next year? That'd just be weird.
  22. So which nationality are you planning to add?
  23. Not exactly the case here though, people are encouraged to make sure they get some fresh air and go for a walk or something (keeping the distance in mind of course). Staying in a decent shape both physically and mentally is more important now than ever and basic things like going for a walk or some exercise help in both of those aspects.
  24. The scoreboard not updating the positions but only the points is really annoying
  25. Talking to a neighbour yesterday while doing some work outside, and (for what it's worth, he's a nice guy but tends to exaggerate a tiny bit) according to him the official death toll of 15-20 for my 27k people town is rather low....there were 15 in this nursing home who died in the past few weeks, 18 in that one, 15 in that home for handicapped people, 15 in that nursing home and at least 10 in that one. It's going fast, yet people don't like when you say maybe this being a strict Christian town has something to do with it..
