  1. Yes, but at least there it's clear what the goal is Just like in for example gymnastics, there is a very clear scoring system (which I don't have in my mind, but I know it exists). Out of curiousity, is there any information on the skateboarding scoring system, like which tricks give you which points, which deductions and so on? Or is it sort of a matter of looking as cool as possible?
  2. "My knee is sore" has apparently turned out to be a broken knee. Damn, not even so much in terms of results, but in terms of all the nonsense outside of pure results...these are not the Olympics yet
  3. It might be because I'm starting to get used to slopestyle and such, which makes this look a bit...pale. In slopestyle for example, the athletes themselves are the main things moving around and upside down and such, whereas here it's mostly the athletes being fairly static and the board flipping around a little in some tricks. Which is obviously really hard to do, but makes it look much less dynamic.
  4. So an official thought it'd be a good idea to cross the track during a training without paying enough attention....one of the favouries, Niek Kimmann, hit him.
  5. Oh I had missed it was the first ever, that makes it even better
  6. For training purposes, so the riders can get to know the jump in a relatively safe manner. It's apparently done in some races when there are big jumps (especially if they're new).
  7. The Dutch rowers are even being harrassed by other nations now, starting with Australia. Olivia van Rooijen, member of the quadruple sculls, was going to grab some....oars (those things one rows with) from the 'warehouse', next to the boats, a rather normal thing to do when one needs to row. An Australian coach saw that and started frantically yelling "OUT! OUT!" at her. Ugh.
  8. Milan Vader (who was very happy with his own race and said he enjoyed it) talked about this as well: he said during lunch/breakfast they were talking about it and said most riders would jump it. Van der Poel said he didn't, he'd go over the wood, but Vader told him that at the test event in 2019, they removed this before the race because these kind of wooden things are meant for training only, to get to know the jumps in a relatively safe manner. "In the first lap I then saw that the wood was indeed gone and a few seconds later I heard people yelling behind me, then I basically knew what happened." he said. Of course he couldn't confirm, but when asked if he thought VDP knew about the wood being gone: "I can't really say, but....yeah I think so, because we talked about it this morning."
  9. The entire Dutch team has retired (mostly the mixed that was still left) due to Rojer's positive test.
  10. I did not see Serrano coming, don't think I've seen him the entire race until he suddenly showed up to take the bronze
  11. ....the Dutch women's road race team? Because this didn't come from Van der Poel
  12. Not nearly Plenty of events where there is only 1 potential challenger instead of several
  13. Very subpar performance by the Dutch, but the Taiwanese were - especially in the last set - very, very impressive.
  14. Wow, Japan needed a 10 to kick out South Korea, but it was a 9, just outside of the 10, and then the Koreans won because their closest arrow was a few millimeters closer to the middle
  15. For MTB as a sport, it'd probably not be good at all if he wins, since we'd get an Olympic champion who likely will be invisible most of the time in the next years..
  16. He is back on his bike, at least. Never good to see anyone crash like that.
