The way Spain is rolling around at the end, this should go to at least 17-18 extra minutes (adding the 3-4 Spain wasted in the extra time).

It forces you to run a championship kind of race, at a championships I really do think it is a lot better than the old system. Say heat 1 went in 8:15 in the old system, then in heat 2 they could 'simply' pace themselves to go for 8:10 or something, which is a rather unfair advantage one would get.

I honestly don't see how this system is worse than the old one with screwing everyone who has the bad luck to be drawn in heat 1 (meaning all later heats can base their pace on that).

Finally a correct decision. And in the end the time of heat 1 was nothing special at all compared to usual at big events. Not faster, not really slower.

To be fair, Greenwood absolutely got super lucky with only a yellow after 9 minutes, that should have been dark red After that it wasn't so bad, and England simply was better anyway.
