  1. Belgian Nieuwsblad had a whole thing about him I saw by coincidence, after googling him while watching the swimming https://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20240830_97125443 Dude is amazing!
  2. Just, wow. Seriously. What is that, they say in TV series....take a chill pill? Holy moly. bestmen on steroids
  3. 6.59,66 for Eder Moraes, the first ever Brazilian to break the 7-minute barrier on the 5k 47 years after Kay Arje Stenshjemmet - one of the legendary Norwegian Four S'es - was the first person overall to do so
  4. Desert Classic is going on in SLC, kind of the season opener there. Nothing too interesting, except for one thing: Arianna Fontana is competing (and doing well in what seems to be her first speed skating races)! 39.35 in the 500m https://speedskatingresults.com/live.php?p=2&e=1&r=1 4:12 in the 3k https://speedskatingresults.com/live.php?p=2&e=1&r=3
  5. Watching the T62/64 women's long jump final, Beatriz Hatz's sideways technique kicks ass
  6. A rare case where a football player was actually caught and punished: Mario Vuskovic of HSV can find something else to do until November 2026. The ban was 2 years, went to CAS, got another 2 years https://www.bundesliga.com/en/2bundesliga/news/hamburg-defender-mario-vuskovic-receives-four-year-ban-from-cas-28666
  7. This sounds like excellent news Not 'against' them, but simply because having different winners is good. I'm sure the last one hasn't been won yet for Djokovic, and next time at the Australian Open the whole 'can he write history!?' will just go on repeat again, but generally this seems like a good development for the sport itself.
  8. Honestly, I always enjoy when meets like these try out new things. It's nothing important, so no problem. The problems come when these things are tried out at big championships Like, taking the measurements for the pole vault by the actual height jumped. Might as well just remove the bar entirely then.
  9. Meanwhile Mercedes has confirmed Kimi Antonelli has their second driver for 2025, to replace Lewis Hamilton (who moves to Ferrari). Nice to see a top team giving a chance to an entirely new driver, instead of putting someone in one of the lower tier teams first.
  10. Neither is Italy's 1-2 in the men's event
  11. Yeah that sucks. Depending on how long fixing it takes, you could just ignore the results and watch it when your computer is back? The YouTube streams will presumably stay available..
  12. Also not on the Paralympic YouTube channel? I'm pretending to be in Romania and can watch all the streams there and there are a lot, I believe I saw archery as well....(not 100% sure)
  13. Since when are protests against people breaking rules (on purpose or not) a shameful, disgusting thing? I mean, is it also disgusting and shameful to protest when a runner stepped across the line in a 200m for example?
  14. Just catching up with last night's swimming and wanting to reiterate something I've felt every Paralympics (and the rare world championships I've seen): swimmers who have no arms at all, like not even a small moveable part, should not physically be able to swim as fast as they do, they are amazing and I think my biggest Paralympic heroes
  15. Nonsense I mean, look at the Netherlands. I grew up watching Jos Verstappen at the end of his F1 career (born in 1990, so mostly started watching from 1996-1998 or so, when I used to watch the start and then go to my room and ask my dad to call me if there was a crash ). When I was 10+ years old, I was watching the full races and was seeing the likes of Christijan Albers and Robert Doornbos struggle in piss-poor cars in the back of the field. Two Dutch riders in F1 at the same time, that was amazing! Doornbos even with a few races for Red Bull, which at the time was an 'ok' team, cool! We were used to the Dutch riding for Minardi, Jordan or, ugh, Spyker. In all those years, up to at least 2012 or so, never did I have any remote hope to ever see a Dutchman get a podium, let alone take a win. Or well, I had hope that would happen like 'one day', but nowhere in the near future. Then came Verstappen in F3, destroying the field there. Sure, he didn't take the title, but those who watched those races know it's because of tons of technical issues and such, when his car wasn't breaking down, he was obliterating the field, especially in the rain. All of a sudden, he was going to ride for Toro Rosso as a teenager, and we got a Dutchman scoring points, wtf! Before we knew it, he went to Red Bull and I can still remember the chills my dad and I had all race and especially at the end when he was actually going to win the race, history I felt similar to when the Dutch football team was about to reach the World Cup final in 2010, like, 'what the hell, am I actually going to see this happen?!'. And here we are, three world titles and a gazillion wins later Just to say: I have no doubt at all a Brazilian is going to win an F1 race again at some point, and absolutely 100% sure a Brazilian is going to drive in F1 again Felipe Drugovich, Rafael Câmara, Gabriel Bortoleto, a random Fittipaldi, and that's just drivers who are already doing well in the junior categories now and in the past 2-3 years, there's no doubt plenty of more coming from Brazilian F4 (Mattheus Comparatto, Alvaro Cho, Ethan Nobels, even his sister Aurelia Nobels) and karts.
  16. Awesome! I wonder, are there more countries that have won at least 1 Paralympic medal but no Olympic medal or countries that have won at least 1 Olympic but no Paralympic medal? I guess the latter, but with Paralympic sports of course being significantly less competitive, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few countries with Paralympic but no Olympic medals. On the other hand, I can definitely imagine in certain countries coming up with any kind of a sports career is extra tough for disabled people.
  17. Anyone else think there should be a bit more leniency towards false starts in athletics in certain categories? I was watching the men's 100m in a category I don't remember and someone just got DQ'ed because he simply wasn't able to stay in the starting position....you know, due to missing a hand and therefore not having full stability.
  18. Have the U23 and junior races of yesterday and today been shown anywhere at all? Normally they are during World Series, but it looks like the world championships are less interesting for UCI...
  19. Ah wait, because of Colapinto (not because of it being in Italy), got it Hope you guys have fun!
  20. You teach/live in Italy?
  21. Of all days they do it on the day they announced the death of one of their founders.
  22. You sure about the 'always' part?
  23. I'd find it weirder if they would not be allowed to be pilots. As long as the blind athlete is, you know, blind (or visually impaired to whatever degree is needed), that should be it. Anyone else should be eligible to be a pilot.
  24. Somewhat annoyed at the track cycling commentators who keep talking about 'he' in the B (tandem) events....as if the pilot is barely putting in effort and only steering.
  25. Thanks, my bad! Double cadet world champion then, just as impressive They should just have similar things for this in all sports, simply call it senior, junior, youth instead of one's own historical fancy names
