  1. De Volkskrant has a picture of Xavi Mo-Ajok on the front page of its sport section. Good day yesterday, with two medals in the women’s TT at the world champs and our women’s under 23 3x3 team winning the world title.
  2. Our fastest sprinter Rafael Bouju was even missing. He was inhuren (again) in the indoor season, and just recently made his comeback. in the post race interview they said that they saw the rain as an advantage as they had trained in the rain to be prepared for what they called “Dutch Weather”.
  3. Do you mean Ria Stalman? She was a discus thrower. Rutger Smith won silver and bronze in 2005 and 2007.
  4. Apparently the first time since 2015 that Thiam has not medaled in a heptathlon she competed in.
  5. That would involve Belgium agreeing or waiting three years (which would be after LA 2028).
  6. The fact that last year Noortje was diagnosed with diabetes will probably have played a part in that decision.
  7. A case of He said , She said
  8. Her coach is very critical of the Belgian Federation. He claims that physically she was in medal shape, but the events of the past weeks, where she felt targeted by the Federation, drowned her energy. The chairwoman of one of the approximately 10.000 Belgian federations involved claims that Thiam has told untruths to the press about what happened in the past weeks.
  9. Twins Bregje and Noortje De Brouwer (26), 🇳🇱bronze medal winners in Paris in synchronized swimming.
  10. Thiam is out. Let the recriminations begin.
  11. I thought she was his daughter🙀
  12. Commercial reasons. Portrait rights and gear. In the end she refused to sign the agreement that Belgian athletes had to sign to be able to compete in Tokyo. But sense prevailed, the resolution of the conflict has been kicked to after the championships.
  13. There’s a huge difference between selecting players with a family migration history, but who often been born and/or raised in the selecting country and who have gone through the national development programs, and simply paying huge amounts of money to buy athletes with no previous relation to their new country, as happened recently with the Jamaican athletes.
  14. If you would have told me this morning that the Dutch team would come so close to the SF, I would have doubted your sanity. Given the number of players missing, this was a most surprising performance.
  15. The term Kingdom signifies that the team contains players from both the European and the Caribbian part of the kingdom. AFAIK it’s never used in any sport than baseball/softball. Probably because the only other sport with a Caribbian influence is Athletics, more specific the men’s short distance events.
  16. He mentioned it once, but I think he got away with it. (With thanks to Basil Fawlty)
  17. With the exception of the 400 meters hurdles, Dutch male athletes were represented in every track final, with at least one in the top 7.
  18. Breakthrough? He finished 6th in the Olympic 1500 metres final, and recently won his first Diamond League race.
  19. Guidetti did a good job with the Dutch team, and then left for the big bucks, despite just signing a new contract
  20. According to Dutch teletext, our best fencer, Rafael Tulen, was injured in the semi-final, and his replacement won all his bouts.
  21. Schulting had announced that she won’t be returning to shorttrack next season.
  22. Obviously I haven’t been following the nordic combined (enough).
  23. I’ve never heard of read anything about a Dutch nordic combiner, let alone of a level that our Olympic committee would deem high enough to earn a nomination.
