  1. The Dutch team has a proud history of losing Olympic finals to lesser teams.
  2. By changing the start order, which is incredible
  3. Our young 1500 runner Niels Laros had several offers from US Colleges, but decided to stay because the training facilities here were more than sufficient
  4. Non-US swimmers training in the US and winning multiple Olympic medals is nothing new. From a Dutch perspective, Inge De Bruijn comes to mind. She won 4 Olympic golds and 8 medals in 2000/2004, after she started training in the US. Same of course in athletics with many foreign athletes in US colleges. So this can;t be the only explanation.
  5. Remarkable interview with Sifan Hassan on Eurosport NL who was unaware she had been promoted to silver, then Kipcheoge turns up unaware that she had been dq’d.
  6. Waterpolo, Beachvolleybal (v), 3x3 Basketbal, Discuswerpen, Zevenkamp. Bol op de 400 meter horden is wel iets meer dan een buitenkansje.
  7. They ran with the same team
  9. I’ve stopped watching Judo, it’s mostly so boring.
  10. Zambia has form, in Tokyo they lost to the Dutch tem by 10 - 3.
  11. To put this is context: there were no expectations of/pressure on this team, probably most Dutch sport fans weren’t even aware that this team had qualified for Paris.
  12. Probably the fourth Olympics in a row that the Dutch archery team lands a 4th place. IIRC in each case at least one shoot-off was involved.
  13. It’s always been thus. In the past matches could be decided by a single penalty,.
  14. I’ve never seen this kind of behavior on the Judo mat. You accept the decision by the referee, whether you agree with it or not. You most certainly are not in the referee’s face, and touch him.
  15. Tegen Japan zou toch kwart finale zijn, dus een herkansing na een eventuele nederlaag.
  16. NL gedeeld 16e in mixed team event, Shoot off tegen Chinese Taipei. indien succesvol, tegen Korea.
  17. Vollering start volgens mij ook in de TT op zaterdag en is zeker niet kansloos voor een medaille
  18. Predicting two medals for Sifan Hassan, when she hasn’t doing anything very notable this season on the track, seems a bit optimistic. Of course you never know with her.
  19. If that were to happen, Steenbergen is practically assured the gold medal in the individual event by a mile, given the limited qualities of our other freestyle sprinters.
  20. So they are allowed to play on the World Tour, but not at the Olympics. Very logical.
  21. According to NOS, the Dutch Olympic committee and the Golf federation will “look” if the other two may go. I am a bit surprised by the outcome, because I remember that in the past requests like this were denied and, as a lawyer, I would think that the Olympic Committee has an enormous amount of room to set their policies.
  22. Saw a tweet by Dutch national coach Laurent Meuwly that the Dutch male 4 x 100 metres relay are qualified for Paris.
  23. We have one of the best opposite’s in the men’s game, but he is surrounded by an average team, while we have a decent women’s team, but no good opposite.
